Hi Everyone - I post everyone once in a while and appreciate the info since so many of you are WAY more knowledgeable.
I've been on Levoxyl for about 10 years due to Hypo/Hashi. In January I had TT due to nodules and some hurthle cells (no cancer thankfully). So now that I have no thyroid I have started to wonder if Levoxyl is the best medicine for me? Is it better to go on something with T4T4 test, T3, T2, T1 so my body is getting those extrasExtra strength mylanta calci tabs Extra strength pain relief? Or it the synthetic "just as good"? I don't think my Endo. is real big on anything but the synthetic but I don't really know since I've only seen her once. I just can't help but think that without a thyroid that something must be missing, if you know what I mean.
Any thoughts, ideas, suggestions?
The levo is just the T4T4 test but your body converts some of it to T3 . Most hypo patients do fine on T4 which is a long lasting hormone (each dose works in your blood for a week). The T3 works in the body for just a few hours. Some patients do feel better on a combo though and the ATA recommends reducing the T4 and taking 5mcg of T3 twice a day (too much T3 is really bad for the heart). There are people here who take the combo drug and really like it.
How do you feel now just being on the T4?

I feel "fine", well...dry skin, tired (but I have a 2 year old), dry hair, can never keep weight down, etc. But I'm also currently taking Vit D. and Calcium b/c of low calcium levels from surgery so it's hard to tell what is what right now.
I just can't help but think that when a gland is removed it does need to be made up for even if the medical community doesn't think certain hormones were "necessary", such as the T1, T2, etc. Know what I mean?
