Yay surgery is over!

Hey all.  I had my surgery on Tuesday June 3.  I had my left lobe and isthmus removed due to a 7 cm nodule that had overtaken my whole left lobe.  I had some bruising that has almost completely gone away and my incision is still hard and swollen but it doesn't look too bad.  I've only scared a few small children out in public so far!  I go in next Tuesday to have the stitches removed.  Frozen section looked benign.  Doc said pathology reports would be back Wednesday or Thursday but I never got a phone call.  I'm worried its bad news and she's waiting for my appt on Tuesday to tell me.

Question:  Anyone have frozen section show benign but final path reports come back malignant???  I've heard this is pretty common but just wanted to feel you guys out and see what your experiences were.

Welcome home and congrats on a successful surgery!  Several people here have had multiple surgeries on their thyroids, so you'll find lots of support here if that ends up being the case for you.  I'll help you repeat your mantra, though, and keep praying it's true:  no news is good news, no news is good news, no news is good news!!  =)

I keep trying to remind myself no news is good news, no news is good news... LOL it's like a chant.  I just keep thinking it would be such a bummer to have the same surgery done again to remove the other side if it turns out to be malignant.  But at least I know what to expect in terms of pain and recovery!

Anyone have to have a second surgery after final pathology reports came back?  Do they make the incision in the same exact spot?  OMG I can't even imagine my incision right now being cut back open!! OUCH!

Don't panic - easier said than done - I should know!!
We all have a tendency to assume the worst when  we don't hear what we want as soon as we want.  Try not to worry and wait to see what they say at your appt'  I'm sure all will be fine.  Often docs and their secretaries are so busy they don't get around to all the calls.  Try to think - no news = good news!
Let us know how it goes

Congrats that the surgery is over and you are doing well!

Oftentimes, the actual path remains benign but sometimes they find what are called incidental papillary microcarcinoma findings elsewhere in the biopsied gland.  Don't get too worried that your report is bad news; it may not be .. may be run of the mill and that is why no report.  Of cousre, could be other things, too ... that is why I point out this finding as a few of us on the board have had this happen.

There is an article in the health pages about Papillary Microcarcinomas .. they are tiny tiny little ones found in the gland.

But don't jump to conclusions; I mention these because you ask :) not to scare you.
