Yearly RAI Scans?

by lawteddy, Mar 23, 2007 12:00AM
If you get a clean scan after your first RAI therapy, do you still need to have an RAI scan each year?

No expert, just personal experience.

My sister had to have the full RAI three times until her scan came back clean.  From there she just has to have a scan in a year then (if clear), two years after that then (if still clear), every five years.

I had a full RAI in November and my thyroglobulin is still detectable.  My endo is going to have me go for a scan this coming November.  If it isn't clear (which we don't think it will be), I'll need another dose of the full RAI.

My endo tells me that I'll have yearly scans after that until they are clear then go to the two years followed by every five years for life.  My thyroglobulin will be monitored every year too.

Make sense??  Sorry, I'm exhausted.

Yes, it makes sense.  Thanks so much for the response after working such a long day:)

No problem.  It's a bit like "drunk dialing" but I call it exhausted posting.  Just as dangerous though.  :-)
