a-fib TSH or T3?

a-fib TSH or T3?

I am taking 120mg Armour thyroid daily.  My recent test results were:

TSH 0.01 (0.50-8.90)
T4 7.3 (4.7-13.3)
FT4 0.72 (0.60-1.61)
T3 84.5 (41-202)
FT3 2.0 (1.8-4.2)

With the TSH suppressed, the FT3 and FT4 are near the  bottom 10% of  their range.  To my mind the TSH, T3, and T4 results  are inconsistent.  Current doctor says T3 and T4 are in range, TSH is too low and is a problem.  He says it  will increase the risk of atrial fibrillation.  My question is does lack of TSH  increase the risk of atrial fibrillation, or is it caused  the excess of T3 and or T4?

TSH will not do anything to your heart. TSH only affects the thyroid, period.

The low levels of hormone will give you heart symptoms, though.

Your doctor needs to up your med. and get your T4 and T3 into the upper third of the test range.

The Free T tests are the ones he/she should be running. The T4 test and T3 test are old, inacurate, and a waste of money.

The suppressed TSH is causing your levels of hormones to be too low, if you have a thyroid that is still producing some hormones. Your TSH should be quite high according to your hormone levels. It sounds like a pituitary problem, as that is where your TSH is produced.

You need to ask for tests on the pituitary to find out why it is not producing TSH properly.

I did have a head MRI that said there were no pituitary tumors.  Beyond MRI of pituitary what sort of other tests should be performed?  My understanding is if the pituitary is not working the solution is to replace the missing hormones, so there is little point of doing tests beyond looking for tumors.

Doctor refuses to up the meds because TSH is suppressed.  I will probably self medicate.

Thank you

Go to another doctor.

I'm not informed about the pituitary well enough to answer your questions, but I think there are other tests and treatment for a pituitary with no tumor.

The doctor should be looking at your low T4 and T3 and doing something about it. The TSH is a problem, but saying you don't need more hormones because your TSH is all screwed up is ignorant. I guess you're lucky he didn't stop your meds.
