always a mystery

Two months ago, I was diagnosed hypothyroid.  I had all the symptoms, so this wasn't a shock.  Three weeks ago, I had chest pain and it seemed I had to remind myself to breathe.  I actually stopped breathing twice.  I went to my doc immediately and was told I have asthma.  What?  I have no allergies, no wheezing, no caughing, no shortness of breath.  It happened again and I was so scared I was dying that I went to urgent care.  They performed blood tests and said my nutrafills were slightly high (which I guess could also be asthma).  Is this at all a reaction to the Cytomel and Levoxyl I'm now taking?  My symptoms haven't improved much, so now I'm wondering if I was even hypothyroid to begin with.  TSH 2.77, FT4 1.05, FT3 2.7  DHEAs (saliva) 22.5 and Progesterone (saliva) 95.  I was also put on a very low dose of progesterone cream, but I had a bad reaction with that and stopped taking it.  My symptoms can't be ignored anymore and nobody seems to want to listen or help me.

I had the same trouble breathing...I too have been to the dr and ER and they say I am fine. I can tell you that I only have these episodes where I feel like I am not breathing and having panic attacks when I am taking too much medication. Perhaps your dr needs to consider lower the dosage. When I take smaller doses, I am fine.

Good luck.

Since I became hypothyroid I had at the beginning trouble breathing. I did have very bad panic before getting my levels under control so it was confusing to my doctors as well as me.

With that panic I felt the choking sensation too along with breathing bad.

I was given an inhaler - but looking back that didn't seem to help either. I am a smoker and know that this only makes things worse too.

I found that my chest area felt like there was inflammation.

I had a horrible time with swelling all over so being inflammed on the inside made sense and I felt there was a connection with the hypothyroidism.

After I got to a level that is right for me and all my symptoms have now disappeared  - the inflammation and trouble breathing has stopped too.

During the hot months when it was humid I had days where I felt breathing was harder - but I would take a puff of that inhaler and it was gone.

I do not use the inhaler regularly at all.
