antibodies high, yet tsh normal

Hello. I am 30 years old. I have celiac. My doc asked for some thyroid tests cause I've been losing wait and have menstrual problems. the results were:
TSH 1.32 (normal)
FT4 1.33 (normal)
FTS 2.8 (normal)
ANTI - TPO 27.4 (HAD TO BE <5.6)
ANTI -TG 80.5 (HAD TO BE <4)

My doc said that ANTI TPO and ANTI TG maybe elevated because of celiac, and that I don't have graves cause TSH, FT3 and FT4 are normal. I've read that there is a possiblitiy that you have graves and yet your TSH FT3 and FT4 be normal.

Your opinion?

Sub-clincal Grave's can show as normal T4 and T3 with a slightly depressed TSH. Your TSH is perfect.

If you want to check for Grave's antibodies, you need to run a TSI test (Thyroid Stimulating Immunoglobulin). TSI antibodies are specific to Grave's, while the two you had tested are not.

Your antibodies that were checked are very low, and your doctor is probably right. The anti-TG makes me wonder, though. It would be normal to find a low anti-TPO level with Celiac, but I'm not so sure about the anti-TG.

OK! thanks for the info. I'll discuss what you posted with my doc. This was helpful!

Hi Meline, I had the same problem for years. My TSH was either slightly elevated, highest being 7.0, or within normal range. It never stayed at one level. I also have antibodies and a small goiter that can be felt and seen on MRI, but not really with the naked eye.

Eventually I finally found a doctor who agreed to test me for Celiac Disease which was a Godsend. If your doctor is willing to do so, I would go for it. Many patients with hashimotos and/or subclinical hypothyroidism, are often diagnosed with celiac disease.

There is a connection, and I'm researching and googling like crazy trying to find reputable sources that explain why. I hope things work out for you.

Well Justmeok, I already know I have celiac....That is why my doc wanted to see if there is also Graves disease. You seem to be well informed, Actually there is a connection between celiac - graves and hashimotos (the one triggers the other), but doctors still cant' tell which one comes first......
My question is if there is graves and at the same time TSH , FT3 and FT4 are normal.

I totally understand you when you say your doctor was a Godsend......Many people go on living their life in pain and there is no good doctor to diagnose them. I was misdiagnosed for 12 years (you know that "it's all in your mind" story...doctors kept telling me my eczema was because of stress......nice....).

Any way, hope you are coping well with your celiac.
