antidepressants

I wrote in the past regarding my falling asleep with extreme ease (sitting up watching TV with a glass in my hand).  Apparently, not many of you have a similar symptom post total thyroidectomy.  All my blood levels are normal (synthroid 175 mcg).  I recently went on a low dose antidepressant and this has made a huge impact.  I have never been clinically depressed nor very low energy.  This antidepressant took away the problem of falling asleep at the drop of a hat.  My overall energy level and mood seem relatively unchanged.  Have any of you found that an antidepressant makes a big difference post tt?

Jeez....I thought I had it bad with having insomnia for over 8 months.  I'm pretty sure mine is caused my my thyroid med level and going thru menopause.  I figure my dosage level isn't going to change and Lord only knows how long I'll be in menopause.  I've been on Effexor XR for hotflashes for almost a year.  I tried to ween myself off these past few weeks because I thought the Effexor might be causing my extreme fatigue and found myself crying at work for absolutely no reason. Yep...living without a thyroid gland SUCKS!!!!

I have the opposite [problem  I was sleeping fine until my last scan and now I'm having insomnia  it has lasted 18months now.  A low dose anti-depressant was the only thing that calmed my brain down enough to fall aseep for at least6 hours and reduced the bizarre dreams that came with not sleeping.   The whole time I was still energetic even with out sleep.  I think it is a chemical imbalance in the brain when I went off synthroid it had to have triggered something.  I take 50mg daily and I added 40mg of folic acid 2x which is supposed to help bring balance.   My synthyroid was 225mg now 200mg.
I'm actually sleeping now.
After my TT I was extremely exhausted until I was back on my meds and wold sleep around the clock. It took about 6 weeks to feel normal again.
HOPE THIS HELPS
