I know exaclty what you are going thru. I have had the same problems for 6 years now. I have been to 18 doctors and they all focus on my weight right off the bat and look past the tumor. I can't find anyone to even do surgury. I have page after page of abnormal lab work.. to include low IGF-1 and low hormones. I have been yelled at by doctors, laughed at and told not to come back also. I have been treated horrbily by doctors and been talked to like I am an idiot.
I am going to an Osteopath this week and not sure what to expect. I don't know what I will do if one more doctor abuses me the way the others have. You are not alone and one day this verbal abuse by doctors needs to stop. Most people don't even believe me that doctors treat their patients that way, but it is becoming a huge issue.
I can't believe that you do not insist on copies of all your tests. If you are to be kept fully informed on all your treatment not only to make the right decision but also to guide your doctor in his treatment of you you will need to have copies of everything that is done to your body. Please insist on copies and keep a diary. You should also do a lot of research yourself on the internet as there is a lot of treatment s and advancements that are made in other countries that are not being done at home because of local restrictions or ruling bodies. The only way you are going to know what decisions are to be made is to be fully informed. If your doctor will not give you your results go to one that will keep you fully in the loop.
The new trend here in Australia we have hospitals that offer the full range of treatments from all types of alternative to conventional to the way out so do not restrict yourself to one area if it is not working for you your body is too important to let incompetency loose the battle for you.
You should have the whole body looked at because normally if you are not healthy your body can't heal itself and also good mental approach can be the different between getting better or getting worse.
and please note more people die in hospitals from incompetency, and super bugs than die from any other causes including heart attacks, cancer and road accidents. So do not take going to hospital lightly always look for an alternative prior to putting yourself through anything so major.
I can't resist.
There are all types of doctors all over the world, just as there are most of the same deseases all over the world. If one country or type of doctor had it fiqured all out, there would be a very healthy country somewhere......and I don't know of one.
Go with what feels right for you. If it doesn't work, try something else.
I am a big believer in using your mind to control your health......plus some good drugs!
im just losing hope here. i have seen the same endo sence my pit tumor,he said my pit hormones was slugglish then-but said when i had sugery -hormones would improve, now its been 2yrs and they are lower than when i had the tumor.my doctor looked at labs and said i had signs of adreanl faituge, that my kidneys was going into failure.endo done test 3mnts ago no call and wont take my calls or no one will give me results or any clue to whats happing to me. i was told this osteopath deals with pit-hormones and is an endo to. and my endo told me not to come back till i lost weight. i have tryed but lose 5pnds gain back in a day or two. wouldent make me a follow up appt till i lost weight?
Today osteopaths and allopaths, (MD's) have the equivalent in schooling and advanced training. In fact most DO's go to the same residency training programs as the MD's. They take similar boards and each state has the same requirements for board certification. Even though the DO's learn spinal adjustments in medical school, I would say that between 80 and 90% of them DO NOT use this in their practice. The DO's of many many years ago used that much more commonly in their practice. Many of the DO's graduate and become family practitioners because much of the focus in their medical school encompasses treating the whole patient and preventative medicine. Brainpain, it is possible that the osteopath that you are going to is an endocrinologist with the same training as an MD endocrinologist.
DO's as I understand take the same board certifiecation test as MD's ... my pediatric group has 4 MDs and 1 DO .. and I use the DO as our primary doc there .. but that is kid issues and not thyroid however I certainly think it is worth a look/see and then you take it all into consideration and see what works for you .. that is my opinion but I'm not 100% sure on a DO vs. Endo on their own .. If me I'd get both opinions and take it from there ?
C~
ok..i have to but in on this, because my brother is a DO and he would freak if he read this thread! most DO's will treat you the same way an MD will...it's just a different medical school (seriously...my brother is doing his residency as an MD!). but some will try and use spinal adjustments in addition to traditional medicine to try and help you. DO's are taught to look at the body as a whole, rather in parts, so they can't help but to think that way (for the most part) when treating you, so in that respect, i think DO's are better, but chances are, you will be let down lol if you are happy with your endo, i would just stick with him/her. hope this helps!
hi,thanks for your reply.i am just hoping to get my pituitary hormones in balance.i had a pituitary tumor and all bloodwork at low normal and growth hormone is low.i feel awful,my endo visits leads to nowhere.endo put me on nasel spray for diabetes intipisdus.i couldent urinate for 24hrs,oh that was painful.he wouldent even look at labwork and told me i was obeise at 156 pnds and even at 132 i was still obeise.he told me not to waste his time or come back till i lost weight. so i was refered to an osteopath that deals with pit and hormones.just praying he will help me-this is my last hope of being normal again, brainpain
I have my personal feelings about osteopaths and "alternative medicine" so take this with a huge grain of salt.
Everything needs to be done in balance. There are those who will take every prescription pill in the book but not take vitamins or watch their diet. There are others (like my mother) who completely rely on homeopathic cures and ignore "Western" medicine and treatments.
Many here have found great results by *balancing* Eastern and Western medicine. Not everything can be cured with a scalpel and a prescription pad . . . and not everything can be cured with drops under the tongue and spinal adjustments (Mom!!!).
So . . . balance.
