anyone here with hyperparathyroid?

Hello! I was wondering if there was anyone here who has had surgery for hyperparathyroidism? I had a parathyroid tumor removed last year and now my PTH is creeping up again but the calcium level is almost too low...Afraid I've got another tumor growing...

Thanks! I put a call into my endo doc, and he assured me the elevated PTH was my body coaxing more calcium to be released from my bone stores...yep. Back to being compliant with taking the calcium...(I got a scolding from his nurse! LOL) I'll be good...Thank you for the feedback!

I was told that if I'm not experiencing symptoms, it's okay to cut back on all the extra calcium.  So, I think it's okay that you didn't comply with taking calcium if you didn't need it.

I've gotten symptoms of tingling and muscle cramps mostly when my blood calcium has gone too low.

I agree, it's best to give the dr a call to make sure nothing is going on.  I know with me, sometimes I just need my mind assured one way or the other.

Thanks for the reply! I'm going to give the endo doc a call tomorrow just to be sure it's nothing...I've got to admit, I haven't been as compliant on taking my calcium as I should...and I was taken off the vitamin D last Sept because the ionized calcium was too high...Hopefully, this is just my body trying to regular stuff...Do you get tingling and muscle cramps when the PTH level rises like this?

I had/have the very same situation you describe.

My PTH is slowing creeping up too but sometimes my calcium levels are still low.  I'm told it's because my bones got so weak, they are in a sense still starving for extra calcium.  Even more calcium than what my blood can give them right now.  That's why I continue to take extra calcium & vit d.

Honestly, I've never gotten the impression this situation is happening because another tumor is growing - or that anything else negative is going on.  But I only know what I've been told and perhaps you have more insight on all this.
