anyone hypothyroid and had successful weightloss? Is that an Oxymoron?

I'm just wondering if anyone was hypo and had success losing weight and how did you do it?  I have completely changed my eating habits and started exercising at least 3 days a week if not more and initially lost 5 pounds, but that is all I am able to lose.  I was wondering if someone was doing something that worked.  If I don't lose weight soon, my thyroid won't be the concern because I'll be so depressed.  Can you take weight loss meds (over the counter) with synthroid?

Any help would be appreciated.

I exercise/run faithfully for over 6 miles per day on my treadmill & eat healthy, & all I've lost is 5 lbs., but my doctor is willing to put me on Meridia if I want because she knows all that I do and that I am very healthy - despite the dumb thyroid problem.  I need to drop 15 lbs. - the amt I gained since diagnosed + since I quit smoking too!!  I'll keep you posted on any new developments.  Good Luck!

This quote comes directly of the brochure my pharmacy gave me with my levothyroxine:  "This medication should not be used either alone or in combination with diet pills to treat obesity or for weight loss because of serious, even life threatening effects could occur.  Lare doses of this medication, especially with diet pills, may cause symptoms of toxicity." You should definiately talk with your doctor before trying any diet pills!!!!!

I took Meridia in the past and I am currently taking Phentermine (all prescription) with my doctor's approval to drop the weight. It is a much slower process than prior to the TT. Good luck.
