bloating and water retention

by jax190, Jun 01, 2008 07:49AM
i was just wondering if anyone has tried using water tablets. i noticed after i had my tt in aug 2006 that while i was in hospital i was constantly weeing and when i got home i had lost 5 pounds and was a size smaller in tops however although i never went back up in my top size my stomach (look pregnant) and hands were more swollen, i have read that this a symptom in hypo and it can cause water retention. so was wondering if anyone else had noticed this after tt and do you know if i could try water tablets.
thanks jackie

I had a lot of water retention after surgery while I was in the hypo state waiting for radioactive iodine.  My feet, ankles and face swelled up pretty bad.  My eyes felt like someone was pushing on them from the inside they were so swollen. My face looked like a moonpie, it was ridiculous.  I did not try and kind of water tablets or anything though. I just drank tons of water and it eventually subsided.

thanks liz did you suffer with it before?

by Liz94, Jun 01, 2008 09:45AM
No, I didn't suffer from anything like that before.  Just when I was really hypo.  You know, a girlfriend of mine was recently complaining of being really bloated and retaining a bunch of water. She has never had thyroid issues before or anything but she went to her family doc and the first thing he did was run her thyroid levels. She hasn't gotten those results back but her doc said being hypo will cause some people to retain tons of water. Are you regulated on medication right now?

ive been of 150mg of levothyroxine for 18 months now and my levels are fine so should be all sorted maybe water retention is'nt helped by meds but i think thats responsible for most of my weight gain.

I am having same problem with water. I drink a ton of it, but can not get it out. I will ask the doc if he will give me a low dose of them to see if it helps. Also with that being said there checking the adrenals to. Drink what you can in water, try taking calcium, magnesium, and zinc it does help with some of the bloating. Not much lol!
