Raynauds started for me about 1 year after removal of my thyroid. i did recently have my synthroid increased and it does seem better. ironically my dr. has it as well and we live up north - she said the best thing to do is to try to keep them from extreme changes. i walk in the cold everyday for exercise and i bought great gloves with liners, and it is usually fine. i actually have more trouble reaching into the cold case at the grocery store. my dr. said it is nothing to worry about - just try to keep them warm and prevent those extreme changes. by the way - my symptoms are they feel painfully cold, and turn white -- sometimes it is all fingers, sometimes partial -- then as the blood starts to recirculate, they turn blue before becoming normal. wierd - huh?
Are you anemic?
Get a CBC as well as a Ferritin blood test. The ferritin will show how much iron you have in storage. It can be low even if the CBC is normal.
Or Raynaud's Disease ?
"Raynaud's disease is a condition that causes some areas of your body — such as your fingers, toes, tip of your nose and your ears — to feel numb and cool in response to cold temperatures or stress. In Raynaud's disease, arteries that supply blood to your skin narrow, limiting blood circulation to affected areas"
-Mayo Clinic
I get the blue tinge on the fingernails too, plus tingles & numbness occassionally if I raise my arm up. I'm hypoT also.
The past couple of years I've noticed that 1/2 of my hand/fingers turn blue, usually after I shower--even if it's a hot shower. Weird.... My left foot has been turning blue, when I'm sitting or standing for 15 minutes or longer, for a few years and I've been diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency--varicose veins, worse on the left cuz of pregnancies, I was told.
Maybe it's Reynaud's syndrome? Maybe due to hypo, maybe not, who knows?
