bonde density test?

Hi everyone, My first visit with an endo was on Monday - he did an ultrasound and I have 2 thyroid nodules.  He scheduled me for an FNA in Spetember, and then a bone density test.  What would the bone density test be for?  I'm not on any meds at present.

I think it's to check for osteoporosis but I'm not positive.

yes, it's to check for osteroporosis.  I just got back from my endo and she wants me to have one because the level of levothyroxine that I'm on can lead to it, plus I've been in menopause for about 6 months.

I guess I'm wondering if it's routine that they check it - I'm 33 and not on any thyroid meds (at least not as of yet!) Can issues with your thyroid cause problems with bone density?

My endo did one on me as well.  She told me that yes, the thyroid problems can definitely affect your bone density.  It's the parathyroid gland that are located behind the thyroid that maintain your body's calcium level.  How did yours turn out?  My endo didn't like my results and put me on more calcium supplements.  The surgeon said they try to leave them in when they take the thyroid.  I'm thinking this can be very tricky, because he told me they were about the size of a grain of rice!  The body is amazing, isn't it?
