I'm relatively new at this, but I'm pretty sure I did read somewhere that coffee does interfere with absorption of synthroid.

I quit drinking coffe about a month ago because it was aggravating my bile reflux, but even when I was still drinking it, I never drank coffee for at least 30 min after taking my synthroid, as the instructions said "take with 1 cup water and don't eat or drink anything else for 30-60 minutes after".  I've gone to green tea in the morning in place of coffee and I still don't drink it until at least 30 min after taking my synthroid.

Maybe someone who's been around longer has more info.

I've taken my meds with a glass of water followed by coffee everyday for 15 years. As long as you are consistent in drinking coffee everyday I think it's probably okay.  For many of those years I also added fiber to my coffee which they say hinders absorption. I didn't have any problems because I was consistent with it and did it the same everyday.

I've taken my meds in the morning then had a coffee straight away and no different effects.
I asked my Doctor and he said that as coffee is liquid and not a digestive food that it wouldnt make any difference and it hasnt.
I actually changed my med time to bedtime as I find it easier taking it at night now because of going back to work fulltime.
Only difference is I start to feel tired around 7pm ( a few hours before it is due).
I dont think coffee makes any difference at all.

I take .175 mcg of Synthroid daily with a cup of coffee in the morning. I have multiple symptoms of face flushing, headaches, nervousness, heart racing, insomnia, etc. If I don't have coffee or soda I don't get these symptoms. I get these symptoms from most foods with caffiene. I have cut back to one cup of coffee in the morning and the symptoms are not as bad but still noticable. If I have anymore than that, I get all the symptoms mentioned plus other symptoms as well.

Lately I have been taking my synthroid before I go to bed with a glass of water to see if the caffiene intake is as severe. There seems to be less symptoms BUT I still have a sensitivity. My doctor didn't tell me to do this but I have been feeling better during the since the transition BUT that's another story.

I'm considering cutting all caffiene from my diet due to the severity of my symptoms. It seems to get worse with each dosage increase. Never had these symptoms prior to sythroid use. It's very frustrating since I enjoy a good cup of Joe. I think they should do a clinical study on this subject. It's nice to know I'm not alone!

I take my synthroid around 1 am - 3 am when I wake up to go to bathroom. I love coffee when I get up and can't wait a whole hour to drink it in the morning. I need to wake up!

I read that taking the synthroid at bedtime was working out well as it is absorbed much more slowly. No food or meds to interfere with absorbtion.
And at 1 am the intestines are pretty empty. I do find myself not sleeping quite as well as I used to however. Not sure if this is a side effect tho.

So I am happy with that time of day.

red sport - coffee is a stimulate as you know. So is your medication in a sorts. it can interfer with your meds.

if you drink milk in your coffee or add sugar they effects can be worse.

jenger - insomina or lack of sleep is the biggest complaint with patients taking their thyroid meds at night. But the intensine and stomach is most empty and taking the meds then could be really the best choice.
