I had thyroid storm, not once but 3 times in 2 weeks and they had to do emergency RAI because of it.
My Hyperhtyroidism and Graves was uncontrollable whilst on anti-thyroid meds and there seemed to never be a 'happy medium.
They just didnt work on me and neither did the beta blockers.
The worst episode was the last one (2 weeks prior to RAI)......I remember feeling as if my heart was coming out of my chest, utter complete panic, a feeling of disorientation, I didnt know where I was, who I was and couldnt even make the desision to go to hospital by car, ambulance etc.
My whole thought 'span' was erratic and I felt like I 'wasnt here'.
I felt as if my body was leaving itself.
Its a sensation I swore I never wanted to ever feel again.
That night due to 2 previous episodes being so close together, my heart was 'shocked' back into rythm by 'paddles'.

I wouldnt wish Thyroid Storm on my worst enemy.
Since RAI (nearly 8 months agao, I have 'come good'.
No heart issues and I am now working back at work fulltime and studying an online one years distance course.
I too have Graves and before RAI my antibody count was 4400.
# months Post RAI, my antibody count was something like 18 , the normal range being under <60 so yes, I am in remission from Graves.
The antibodies never go but they are classified as being in remission if you can keep them under the reference range count.

I had thyroid storm b4 diagnosed with Graves. It strarted gradually, I couldn't stand warm water on me it felt hot, I had very fine tremors and found it impossible to sew or even brush my daughters hair,my thoughts and speech were "racy", I couldn't sleep or sit and stand still, my heart was pounding so bad, the morning I took myself to the Doc's I thought I was having a heart attack and would die. I had a fever, it was very frightening, but it creeped up on me until that morning I knew I was in serious trouble my heart rate was over 200. I am now in remission, and feel good, taking no meds at all, after ony 6 months on meds and beta blockers.
Research all you can on Graves, and above all stay optimistic and healthy...You can beat Graves. Good Luck.
Christine.

A thyroid storm is basically a dumping of entirely too much thyroid hormone into your body.  It causes extremely high heart rate and dangerously high blood pressure among other things.

If you think you are having one, you should go to the emergency room immediately as thyroid storms can absolutely be life threatening.
