Even if your body once coverted T4 to T3, 25 yrs of Armour made your thyroid lazy, so I dould it will convert much any more - thus you realy need to take T3 of some form.
I'm sure by now you have heard of Canadian ERFA dessicated thyroid? Its the closest to old Armour that you can get.
Just need to fax script to a Canadian online pharmacy that has ERFA or go to ERFA . com itself and order it.
No reactions to the T4, but do better on a combo with Armour. Was the reaction to the filler?
I take both Levoxyl (T4) and Armour (T4/T3). When I was switched back to Synthroid (T4) only, I felt terrible (switched due to shortage of Armour). Then we tried Synthroid (T4) & Cytomel (T3). I did better but still didn't feel that good. I'm now back on the Armour & Levoxyl I feel better.
They discovered I didn't convert the T4 to T3, so the Levoxyl & Armour combo works best for me. This combo keeps the FT4 & FT3 where it should be.
Hope they get your meds worked out and improve.
Hi fionnabi,
I'm only fairly new to thyroid disease - high TSH Aug 2009, Hashimoto's April 2010. I do not react well to synthetic T4 only. Not only does it make me really sick it wasn't lowering my TSH as well as expected. Eventually I convinced my doctor to let me try T3 only. I've been on a low dose of T3 for about 8 weeks and my TSH is now where I want it to be. Within 48 hour of taking it I stopped feeling really sick and my thyroid symptoms have disappeared.
I'm in Australia where we don't need insurance approval for treatment so once I convinced my doctor to change my meds it was easy. Fortunately, I have a doctor who is willing to let me experiment.
Have you considered trying some sort of Inflammation Therapy? Both chronicillnessrecovery.org and mpkb.com sites have extensive libraries you can access to find out more.
Hope this helps and you improve soon.
Best wishes ... Cheryl
I am pretty new to the hypothyroid condition (I have autoimmune Hashimotos) I have read non-stop about thryoid conditions and the drugs prescribed for it over the last 3 months. From what I have read T4 only does not often alleviate the symptoms and many people spend years with their symptoms regardless of the dosage they are taking. The drugs may produce "blood test results" that doctors like to see - but the symptoms are still there or become worse. I needed T3, and I knew it.
I am taking the new reformulated Armour and feel much better than the month from hell on Levoxyl. (my experience) I also cut the tiny tablets (2X30 mg) onto a spoon, add a drop of honey and take it that way. (breaks down the cellulose binder better) I sure wish I'd have been able to experience the former Armour. I'd go to the website "Stop the Thyroid Madness" to read about locations to purchase other natural dessicated thryoid.
Maybe the reaction was from not having a T3 med with the T4 med?
Why not suggest to your Doc that he also prescribes a T3 med too?
Just a thought.......
