change of dosage

by karbear320, Feb 10, 2009 07:04PM
I have been hypothyroid for over 10 years. Have been on a dose of 75/20 (T4/T3), twice a day, of bio-thyroid for the past four years with good results. I recently lost 45 pounds (yea!) and now I am overmedicated, according to my doctor. My Total T3 is too high at 245. My TSH is at .10, so according to my doctor I am now hyperthyroid. She is not familiar with  the bio-thyroid protocols, just followed my previous doctors prescription since my numbers were always right on. So we are guessing at what the new prescription should be. My Total T4 and Free T4 is in the normal range, so that side of the numbers are okay - what does she adjust the T3 side to? Right now she is just having me skip my evening dosage three times a week and will recheck me in a month, but I'm worried this could affect my T4 as I am on the low side of normal with that  (Free T4 was 0.7). I feel okay, other than incredible cravings for carbs and am extra hungry, and I don't think it's the diet. Am sleeping well, but do feel a bit more fatigued than I did a month ago.
No one seems to know much about the bio-thyroid, but I have been very happy with it compared to taking Levoxyl and Cytomel. My dosages were always up and down with that, and I have been steady for years on the bio-thyroid. ANy advice you can offer will be much appreciated. Thanks.

Total T3 and T4 are outdated tests and shouldn't be used....you need to have Free T3 and Free T4 done with the TSH to get an accurate ratio and look at what is going on.
When using Armour, wes-throid, bio-thyroid, etc., your tsh will look hyper....free t4 should be mid normal range and free t3 should be high normal when optimum. Most important is how you feel.
As you can see...normal range doesn't mean normal....it varies.
