chest pain ...

Hello everybody , my doctor told me I have thyroid nodules almost 2 month ago.
He said my case is very rare and challenging for an Endocrinologist because the thyroid uptake scan ( I-123 ) didn't work on me due to CT scan that I had before I diagnosed with hyperthyroidism plus I was allergic to Methimazole .
By the way approximately 1 and half month ago doctor prescribed me Methimazole 10 mg 3 times per day which after 2 weeks I started getting rash and skin reactions so I took 1 week off and then he switched me to PTU 300 mg per day until yesterday , I had appointment with doctor and he said you can stop taking medicine and do a blood test in 2 month to see if your levels will stay normal ...
My blood tests :
6/26/15
t4 12 , range 5-12.5
t3 uptake 43.5 % , range 22.5 - 37
free thyroxine index 5.2 , range 1 - 3.9
tsh less than 0.008 , range 0.350 - 4.500

after using Methimazole for 2 weeks
8/3/15
tsh 0.01 , range 0.40 - 4.50
t4 free 1.1 , range 0.8-1.8

after using PTU for 2 weeks and final results
8/21/15
tsh 5.53 , range 0.40 - 4.50
t4 free 0.9 , range 0.8 - 1.8

Now I have become a little Hypo but doctor said your body will adjust itself by the time & you'll be fine ... He told me use Propranolol if you think you need it
I have been feeling better until yesterday morning I woke up and I realized I have chest pain , tremors , breath shortness and anxiety ...! My libido has also decreased
Shall I wait so my body adjust itself or what ? has anyone had the same experience as me ?
Thanks

Hi blondehumor776
-I checked with my Cardiologist , I know it's not heart related ! even though my blood pressure was a little high 120/100
-today I feel a little better compare to yesterday
I have an appointment with my endocrinologist on 10/6/15
I called my endocrinologist about my chest pain and he said there shouldn't be any problem with your thyroid
Thyroid uptake scan didn't work because of contrast that they injected to mu body before the CT scan ( Contrast has made of Iodine and reduce the thyroid iodine uptake ) and yes 3 month after my first thyroid scan , I can do another one ( I should wait 2 more month )
How do you feel now ?
I hope you feel better !

Hi there,

I agree with Barb.  You should call him and schedule a time to have blood work done again as soon as possible. Don't ignore chest pain!  If you have thyroid nodules, ask him about those and how those can possibly effect hyper/hypo symptoms  The nodules should not go unnoticed. Sometimes they can be nothing, and sometimes they can cause your hyper symptoms.

Did he say why the thyroid uptake scan didn't work?  Could you do another one?

I hope you feel better soon.  Your blood test results from 8/26 were similar to mine before I began taking Methimazole a long time ago.  I had an autonomous hyper functioning thyroid nodule that was producing too much thyroid hormone.

Hi Barb135
Thanks for the reply
I don't know I'm so confused !
My Endocrinologist is a good and well known doctor + my case is mild and it's Nodule not Graves and I've been on medicine for a total of 4 weeks , not a long time
I was a bodybuilder and I did a mistake and took some growth hormone pills and I do believe they are the cause for my hyperthyroidism ( it's not genetic )
I was worried about my heart . actually couple hours ago I met my Cardiologist ( which is a very good doctor ) he did EKG and it was good , stress test was good right now that I'm writing this , I have a Holter Monitor on me , my blood pressure was a little high though !  120/100
doctor said it might be anxiety
It can't be thyroid storm because I don't have fever at all + my heart rate back to normal , I just have weird chest pain , shakiness , shortness of breath and sometimes diarrhea and panics
since I diagnosed with hyperthyroidism ( 5 month ago ) I'm always thinking about it 24/7 a week and I can't be my old self :(  I missed all those good times

It's been a while since you posted this... are you still having these symptoms?  If, at any time, you feel that you are in a medical emergency with these symptoms, you should go to the nearest ER or call 911 as these can be symptoms of thyroid storm, which can be very dangerous.

If the symptoms continue, you should call your doctor and request new blood work... I'm not sure why he would completely stop the medication vs lowering the dosage... it was the medication that caused you to go hypo and it stands to reason that taking you completely off the med would cause you to be hyper again... that might be something to ask him.
