My daughter is 16. She was diagnosed (with ultrasound) to have a 2cm complex cyst on and around her thyroid. Is she a littleLittle noses decongestant Little tummys young for this ? or this a possible result of her infrequent periods/ starting menstruation. She is to have a biopsy with some type of needle within the next week. How accurate are the results. Thanks, Dad (Mark)
cystic degeneration of smaller nodule;
internal bleeding in the thyroid capsule after the injury to the neck.
Unless she is hypothyroid or has autoimmune , there is no connection between cyst itself and periods.
As the nodule formation is very rare in her age, complete evaluation included 2 stage biopsy [first to aspirate fluid then get sample from solid component] is necessary.
If the cyst is benign and amount of solids is minimal, then PEI treatment can be tried as alternative tio surgery.
Best of luck!!
