confused need some advice

I currently am seeing a new endo for my thryoid. She put me on a low dose of Levoxyll. I my recent lab was a TSH of 2.84 the nurse said that was just where I needed to be. After reading the forum here it seems high to me. I was at 3.13 in January. I have been on 12.5 mcg of Levoxyll for 1 month. I know it is a very low dose but am extremely sensitive to all medications.

Since Janurary I have had a lot of midnight awakenings with a racing pulse. I wore a holter and all turned out begign. The new endo seems to think I do not need a thyroid scan. In the past I had a goiter but at my visit she could not paplitate it,she  feels that the thyroid is starting to shrink due to the disease.

I live near Portland Oregon and would like to find an endo who specializes in thyroid. My new doc didn't seem at all concerned. I saw her once and will only need to go in for labs. I am 46....and have had panic disorder since 1994. I currently take toprol for palps, and meds for the panic attacks. The more I read I am thinking Hashimoto's has been a big factor in my body and why I feel the way I do. Just hoping someone has been in my boat and can shed some light.

My labs in August 06 were
TSH 8.18
Free T4 0.9
Anti-thyroglobuin 135.0
Thyroid peroxidase Auto Antibody 1300

January 07
TSH 3.03
Free T4 1.0

March 07 TSH  2.84

I can truly relate to being so sensitive to all meds ... so @ my insistence they started out very low on the Synthroid (25mcgs) and now I'm still being upped.  My last TSH was 2.9 and one before was 3.9 ... both were on Synthroid 25 and then 50mcgs with one mo. in between tests.

I am now on 75mcgs and finally I feel pretty good .. I bet my #'s have dropped.

I have had symptoms and been subclinical for 2 yrs and it was all dismissed until I had a partial thyroidectomy and now they all say my symptoms were and are thyroid related.

My "normal" TSH was 2.4 before surgery .. now they want it down bcz of 2 small cancer areas found.

Not all problem nodules are palpable.  Mine wasn't - neither were any of my sisters.  Please talk to your doctor about an ultrasound of your thyroid to determine if there are any suspicious nodules.  If your endo says that you can't have thyroid cancer and hashi's, fire her and get a new doctor.  Doctor's shouldn't strictly medicate based on labs, part of the equation is how you feel.  Please find a really good endo (call OHSU for a referral).

Tiredpuppy and Utahmomma,

Thank-you so much for the helpful advice. I defitnetly have the hyper hypo swings,ugh.... I will keep searching for an endo that will listen to me. 3 years ago the 1st endo I had me hold my hands out, drink some water(checking goiter)  and told me that I read the internet too much...he also said that meds could make my anxiety symptoms flair up. So I of course that freaked me out and I chose to not go on meds.  It has been a long 3 years .The forum has helped me more than anything...............God Bless you all.

hi kelly
welcome to the forum. 1st I just want you to know that all of us here have or had to some degree problems with doc's & endo's so that is always an ongoing problem for all of us ...2nd tho i have never had anxiety attacks per sey I have felt the increase of aniexty due to the hasimoto's disease and most diff. the heart palps for sure...your antibodies are quite high at 1300...mine were in 2400 range in the early days and kept going up...until my TT in feb. of this year. That said hasi can make you feel absolutely nuts and yet appear to have all normal TSH T3 T4 etc. but yet you are experiencing a hypo hyper swing that makes you moody and then nutty so I sure can relate. As far as going off your meds. NO infact you should really try to find a doctor that knows how to treat hasimoto's disease cuz it is quite tricky to deal with as is graves. I am sure graveslady will add some words of wisdom for you too but I really encourage you to find a good doctor and go from there. Mary shomons website has a list of doc's state by state...I will try to get the web address for you in the mean time you can google her name and it should bring up her web site...hope this helps
feel free to post away, thats why we are all here.
