Your Free T4 and Free T3 need to also be in the proper range, and I seriously doubt your doctor knows what that is.
Forget about the weight gain and look at the big picture.
If you go hyper because of medication it will make you ill and could damage your body.
If you stay hypo you will have the same results.
You need to get your blood checked six weeks after every med change, and keep looking for a TSH close to 1.0, and a Free T4 and Free T3 about two thirds up the scale of of the lab range printed on your test.
And you need your own copy in a file at home, so you can look at it rather thn having the doctor tell you that everything is normal.
Do that, get your hormones right, wait a few months, and you will feel much better. Those who gain weight are almost the ones that are held at a hypo level for months or years by ignorant doctors.
Your TSH needs to be around 1.0 or 1.5, NOT 5.0.
