cramps in my hand

I am going to have a thyroid scan and uptake on Monday and am on the low iodine diet for a week.  My tsh is 0.10 and I have a multnodular goiter.  I have been on the low iodine diet since Monday.  I do not have the symptoms of hyperthyroid like tremors, heart palps., hair loss, weight loss.  Also I take calcium, d, and multivitamins and have stopped for 2 weeks.  I do have deficient calcium and d, but I thought that I needed to stop because of test.  All of a sudden today, I had severe cramping in my left hand and could not write. I then had a sore feeling in arm.  I went away after a while but I was scared.  After that my head started throbbing.  It was real scarey.  I called the dr. that gave me the low iodine diet and she said that I could take vitamins.  I read somewhere that deficient d and calcium can cause cramping.  The question I have is, can this be at all related to having the hyperthyroid problem ?  I still don't know what caused the hyperthyroid problem so I guess knowing the reason for it would give me more answers.  Have any of you had cramping like this and what did you do?

You can still take calcium supplements while on the low iodine diet.  Just make sure you buy the ones that contain NO oyster shell or they may say shellfish free. I get very bad cramping if my calcium levels drop, so I did stay on the supplements while I did the LID.

I have not had it in the hand, but have had muscle spasms in the arch of the feet, the calves of my legs and sometimes the lower back and muscle pain in the neck and shoulder, although after I was advised from members here to try taking Vit D and Magnesium, just about all of the muscle problems went away in a week. I don't know if thyroid causes a drop in these vitamins or not, but it seems to be pretty common among thyroid sufferers. Good Luck FTB4
