discolored fingernails with raised area near nailbed

by Elloree, Aug 14, 2008 07:31PM
A friend of mine showed me her thumbnail--discolored vertical stripe and a raised area of the nail
at the cuticle area.

Dermatologist does not know what the problem is, and has ordered her to see an endocronologist.
This person is very afraid that she might have some form of cancer, but at this point, she's not
certain what's going on with this strange condition.  Any thoughts?
Thank you.

In all four books I have on the subject of thyroid disease, the specific situation you describe is listed as a symptom.

You could put in search terms 'fingernails + thyroid' and get a whole bunch of info on this very thing.

The cancer thoughts might be a leap, I don't know...

Good luck.
