do not know what to do?

So far I have been to 3 different docs. My TSH, 3rd generation was at 28.4. My doc put me on synthroid .05. I started having chest pains my heart went crazy and I felt very anxious. I then stopped taking it and went to another doc. My blood test then said TSH 4.90. T4free and T3 free were fine but my antibodies peroxide was 454. He told me do not take anything. I went to another doc and he told me I definately need to take snthroid and lowered my dose to .025 but couldn't explain to me about the peroxide being high. He said there is no solution just take the synthroid. I am worried I will have another bad reaction. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi,

with very high antibodies it means your thryoid is under attack.  THis can also explain the swinging TSH (and probably the other numbers are swinging also).

You will likely need to increase the thryoid meds over time as the thyroid gets killed by the antibodies.  For now I think the 3rd doctor is heading in the right direction.  Yes, you will need to take a very low dose of thyroid meds, but with monitoring of FT3 and FT4 as well.

Seeing you are sensitive to meds, you would have to start very very low and build very slow.

It can be as slow as taking 1 tablet of 25 mcg once a week for a few weeks.  Then 2 tablets within the week. etc..  Till you probalby get to 25 mcg daily.  Then you test again.  Target TSH is 1 - 2.  Target FT3 and FT4 are mid to upper half of the reference range.  But note that everyone is different.  Some people need TSH and other numbers higher or lower within the ranges to feel good.

Others will chime in too.

Hi Patrick1, That scenario just sounds whacked! But all too often that is what happens to us. Can you post your full blood labs? Your TPOab and TGAb and the FT numbers?

Your TSH could fluctuate a lot during the day, Unfortunately many doctors look at that and never bother or know enough to get the full picture.

It sounds like you went way hyper on the Synthroid.  Have you had any thyroid ultrasound or thyroid Uptake and Scan?

Most of my symptoms tend to be Hypo but after an ultrasound form the local health screening place, I discovered I had several "nodules" on both sides of my thyroid and was eventually and finally diagnosed with Toxic Multinodular Goiter.

The antibodies numbers can fluctuate also. There are so many things that can affect the thyroid!

Do you mind telling us your age and is there a history of thyroid disease in your family?
