do you take meds, herbal, anything for sleep?

I am having a hugh problem w/sleep.  can't fall asleep, can't stay asleep.   tsh is low right now ..trying to balance it w/suppression levels needed for ca.  meantime, haven't slept in over a year (well) -was pregnant last august, difficult pregnancy, then thyroid probs started postpartum in may.

what do you take, if anything?  do you do any alternative therapies that help?

my primary's jaw dropped when he gave me the highest dost of lunesta and i only slept for 3 hours.   tried trazadone, klonopin and i didn't like the grog next day, plus it took me forever to fall asleep and i still woke up.   take ambien cr now, but i'm afraid to get addicted to it and it totally knocks me out so i can't hear the baby.    i started having really vivid awful dreams w/it too - so went off of it for several days , but then had to rely on xanax, which doesn't really do anything for me anymore (sleep wise, anxiety wise, yes)

any natural remedies ?  an herbalist i saw suggested warm milk, sliced ginger and honey.
i'm trying to limit the drugs ..just weaned myself off of celexa and prilosec and using alternative therapies (acupuncture, chiro).  the herbalist i met on vacation suggested regular reiki.  but honestly, i can't afford to do all these different treatments!

Thanks for the suggestions...i do have a journal, and I need to make use of it more regularly!    you have a lot on your plate as well.  my husband has bipolar and it wasn't an easy road for him for the first 7 years of our marriage....he's on lithium and lamictal now and very stable.     he was on zyprexa and zoloft for some time, but that always kicked up the mania for him.
