what does an elevated T3 mean? and what can i do to bring my levels down w/o taking synthroid?

It depends on the specific T3 test.
Free T3, Total T3, T3 uptake, are all different tests that have different meanings and different margins of error.

The type of test you are reffering to makes a difference.

"Elevated" is also rather non-specific, and can mean a little high, or way too high. So it depends on how elevated you are talking about.

Generally speaking, a high T3 indicates an over-abundance of T3 hormone, which MAY indicate hyperthyroidism rather than Hypothyroidism, and Synthroid could make it worse.

If you are taking Synthroid, you may need to take less.
If you are not taking any thyroid meds, you may need medication to slow your thyroid down.

Testing your TSH, your Free T4, and your Free T3, and looking at the tests together will give a better picture of what needs to be done.

A total T3 is of dubious value, and a T3 uptake test does not actually measure your T3, so it is important to know what tests are being run and what they measure.
