Hi!
I've experienced the leg edema (makes pits if you press your finger on it) and an odd darkening in my lower legs as well (but not skin thinning) for the last year or so. My Dr worked me up for kidney and liver functions, but all came back okay. Recently I was diagnosed with Hashimotos thyroiditis (slowly dying thyroid from antibodies attacking it, resulting in persistent hypothyroidism.) -I don't know if this is the cause or not, but it may put you on the right track for looking into the underlying cause...Good luck! ~MM

Go get your adrenals checked. Skin darkening is a major symptom in Addison's disease. Your ankles swelling is due to inability to get rid of salt causing retention. Many Addison's patients also have thyroid disorders.

I urge you to go to a doctor and get checked as soon as you can. If it is Addison's it is a life threatening disease. It isn't then at least you have had a good check up by the doctor.
