facial swelling, numbness?

by kidsnchicks, Apr 30, 2009 06:30AM
Has anybody here experienced swelling on the face, primarily around the mouth?  Over the last few weeks I've had slight numbness & tingling with slight swelling in my lips.  It wasn't enough to notice by looking at me but I could feel it.  I once had a large bump form but it went away over night.  Well, this morning I wake and the lower half of my mouth feels numb and swollen.  I look in the mirror and can see the swelling.  I look a little like Droopy the dog!  Its mostly at the outer edges of my mouth then downward.  Am I the only one experiencing something like this?  I have not had any treatments or diagnoses yet.

I get swelling of the gums, inside of the mouth and tongue when I am HYPO.
Also very little saliva.
Hope that helps.

I have no idea what my actual situation is.  My symptoms and test results lean towards hyperthyroidism but not sure what kind or why.  Now, it seems as though some of my symptoms are leaning towards hypothyroidism.  I've noticed the slight swelling, numbness & tingling before.  I would just like to know why I am having it.  This morning I woke with it and feel like I look like Droopy the dog and now it is making my upper cheeks feel funny too, though I think the swelling is subsiding.  Just this week, I am noticing a slight lump in my throat.  It is to the left, like the scan sowed.  One poster suggested it might be toxic adenoma?  What would there be that would start out as hyper then go to hypo on its own or have mixed symptoms of both?  This is so confusing!

'Crossover' symptoms can be from a low Free T4 and a high Free T3 with either high or low TSH.
The hyper symptoms come from the Free T3.
Get yr levels done and also antibody testing.
It has been known for some people to have BOTh Hashi and Graves.
But then again, you could also be experiencing 'T# Toxycosis" which is a form of thyroiditis(inflammation).
