I usually have my coffee first and then a couple hours later I take my PTU (50mg/twice daily)

I have cut out the high fiber cereals such as Shredded Wheat and Fiber One. However,
plan to stick with the l gram of fiber Special K until I learn that even that is not advisable.
Try to avoid foods that have a high iodine content.
You can eat a shrimp dinner, or seafood, or sushi, but do it from time to time, not constantly.
Goitrogens are a class of vegetables that you should probably read about. Broccoli is a goitrogen. Cauliflower is a goitrogen. Goitrogens can be consumed in moderation if they are cooked. Eating them raw is not recommended. Soy is also a goitrogen, and the advice is usually to just don't eat soy.
There are specific do's and dont's about how you take your thyroid medication, and I am learning today that high fiber foods in the morning can interfere with absorbtion of replacement hormones.
Like my wheat toast, and my oatmeal, and almost any cereal that I can think of. Blueberry muffins??
Coffee should be avoided the first hour or so.
You can drink all the alcohol you want, as long as you don't end up on another forum from it.

Moderation is key for most of these things. A little won't hurt you. Avoiding the easy ones and cutting back on the hard ones is how I have been approaching it.
Your body still needs iodine, for instance. But hitting the seafood buffet hard can be detrimental.
