Thanx so much for sharing your story with me as i am with a consultant who seems very disinterested in my suffering and not very forthcoming with information! everyone on this site seems to know so much about their bloods and tsh levels etc, when i seem to be clueless!
i think my next course of action is to ask for a different hospital and consultant.
your symptoms are identical to mine but can't understand why i was diagnosed with graves when i had all them tests and i had the iodine test aswell? really confused now? i will ask for these test's your suggesting, hopefully it will reveal all.
can i ask you wat does your treatment (thyroid hormone)involve and how do you feel now? does it have a good success rate? i know i might be jumping ahead but cannot see a light at the end of this very long miserable tunnel and reading others stories gives me such insight and gives me hope i might get my life back!
regards becky
What was this blood test? TSH? If so, that would lean toward hypothryoidism, not hyperthyroidism, caused by Graves.
Before I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's (leading to hypothyroidism), I too, thought I had Graves. Here's why: People with Hashimoto's swing from hyper to hypo. We have bouts of anxiety, then depression. Diarrhea, then constipation. Racing heart and sleeplessness, then fatigue. We get hives, low immunities, low vitamins (particularily D and B12). I had all of your symptoms last year before starting thyroid hormone.
Sometimes, people with Hashimoto's have severe hyperthyroidism caused by leaky nodules.
If you suspect Graves, get the TSH, FT3, FT4 tests to determine your levels. Then, get the TSI antibody test to determine if you have Graves.
Also, add the TGab and TPOab tests to rule out Hashimoto's. If your TSH is 5.1, it is NOT normal. It is in the hypo ranges, and you need a doctor who will test you further.
Also, I recommend a thyroid ultrasound.
