Oh MAN, don't tell me he is giving you estrogen without progesterone??? Did he check your progesterone levels too? Do you still have your ovaries? If not, you are not making progesterone, and we need both.

Sometimes it's difficult to distinguish between menopause and being hypo when you are going through both, except that instead of freezing to death you're burning up from the inside out, lol. Presently, I flash between cold and hot constantly. It *****.

PLEASE do some reading on Bio-identical hormones. I know you got enough on your plate just figuring out your thyroid meds, but taking estrogen without progesterone to balance it out is not right!   Maybe you need to go to an lower dose of testosterone if it's making you feel bad.

Thanks! Yeah I go in the 17th. I am 42 and I had a full hysterectomy 3 years ago. Life has never been the same again. Last month he checked my hormones and said I was low on estrogen, I take 2mg of estradial a day, and low on testosterone. He gave me a lotion (prescription) but it makes me feel bad. I am also on 50,000 iu of vitamin d a week. My vitamin D is low. Bone desity test tomorrow. I cant seem to find where the armour dosaging chart is.......BRAIN FOG!!!!!!LOL!!!

Well, in my own case I refused the cholesterol lowering drugs. My recent labs are showing increase in cholesterol levels. I am exactly where you're at, 248! I am 49, and should probably be more concerned than I am about it. For myself, I am concentrating on getting my thyroid optimized before resorting to more drugs. Also, I am post-menopausal. I went from dx hypo to perimenopause to menopause to post-menopause all in about four years. So that also plays into the mix for me, making me deficient in not just thyroid hormones, but female hormones as well, and all that is  interconnected. I have just started on bio-identical hormone treatment, and I want to see how that will effect my labs as well.

You should be due for new labs, soon right? I would wait and see. In the meantime, try to follow a low fat diet, and take Niacin, which is B-3, and has been proven to increase levels of good cholesterol, HDL and lower the bad, LDL. I think I should take my own advise, ha. I bought a bottle, and let it set till it expired, with all the other vitamins and supplements. I think I'll buy another bottle. I know my sister tried it, and it lowered her cholesterol levels.

I am hypo and was just put on armour 60mg half a pill three times a day.(since oct.17th) My cholesterol was 248. He said lets re-check in one month and do a fasting blood test. I dont want to go on yet another drug. I may need a higher dose of armour i believe. Do I ask to get my thyroid in good check for a few months before taking any cholesterol lowering meds? What is my bet stragedy?

Hypothyroidism slows down all biological processes. Not only are you surviving day to day in slow motion, but so is your body. It's like going to the grocery store with a limited amount of money, and having to choose which items to put in your basket. Our bodies are doing the same every day. Some things will be left on the shelf that we don't need right away. Controlling cholesteral and glucose uses energy. The body is deciding that the energy is put to better use just keeping our hearts beating today. There is no surplus to save for tomorrow.

I don't think a lot of doctors realize this. Instead of correctly treating the thyroid, they want to treat the symptoms with more drugs.
