hives

by grandee276, Feb 08, 2009 05:49PM
I have been suffering with hives for about 4 months now. I take levoxyl .88 mcg my tsh is 2.1 currently. the only relief i have is when i take allegra. I went to g.p. when i woke up one morning and my lips were swollen and i had been waking up with hives every am. My g.p referred me to an allergist and he did several tests (lupus etc along with the anti thryoid antibodies )and I already see and endrocrinologist i went to the endo crinologist after the allergist found the antibodies and she has changed my thryoid meds to synthroid 112mcg.  I would like to get off the allergra, but the hives are so bad if i forget to take it I am miserable. My body stings like i fell into an ant bed then the whelps itch. I have a friend who stopped taking her meds then went back to the dr and he put her on the amour thyroid. I don't think my endcro. writes very much of that.  Can you please offer somethype of help or something to suggest to dr that would not offend her?

How long ago did you make the switch to synthroid from levo? They all have fillers in them that vary between each other. I wonder if you were having a reaction to the fillers in levo. I would stay on the Allegra for a little while until you can figure out what you are reacting to. What did the allergist say to you?
Armour has some fillers in it as well and is a different med with both t4 and t3 in it. The most hypo-allergenic thyroid med would be wes-throid. It has hardly any fillers at all.
Just some tidbits for you. :)

Hi,
I had hives every day for a year and a half!!!....SO I CAN RELATE!! I know how miserable they can make you! Mine all started from a severe reaction to levaquin. I ended up in the ER several times with anaphylactic symptoms ( very scary!) I started having reactions to things I had eaten and been around my whole life.( foods, salad dressings, mold, grass, etc) No doctors in my area could  help me, they were all puzzled. I finally got a referral to University Of Michigan...(OMG! What a lifesaver!) They perscribed Doxepin, which immediately helped!! I also was on Allegra. The meds made me very tired, but was instructed to take at night! Boy, did I sleep good!! I was on this for about 8 months and then weaned off after all hives STOPPED!! I have been hive free since 2006! THANK GOD!! Ask you DR. about this...it may help...good luck and I hope you get some relief soon!!
