My thyroid is huge and keeps growing. The dr suggested that it come out while I am young and healthy so it doesnt cause further problems down the road. He doesnt think I will have to be on medication either.
My surgery may be outpatient depending on my recovery.
I'll keep in touch when I get back.
HI to all. Yes, I was asleep through the whole surgery and it took about 2 hours. I had a suspicious nodule which led to the removal of 1/2 my thyroid. The path report says non cancer. I will see my doc on thursday to have my stitches out. I feel much better now and it has been almost a week. I still get a bit tired during the day. This was also my first surgery and I had never been put to sleep. I ate normal food the very next day and i was in the hospital for 2 nights. I had a drain in my neck for a day and a half. I did have a bit of a sore throat for 2 days, but very minor. No pain really, just a feeling of pressure in that area. I have no pain now, just tightness where the stitches are. Not too bad really. I did rest alot the first fews days at home. My husband was awesome and my neighbors all brought so much food for us .... I hope you have as good of an experience as I did..why are you having yours out?? Kim
Glad to hear that your surgery went well. I am scheduled to have half of my thyroid removed on 121406. It is good to hear from people who have gone through the same thing. This is my first surgery so I am a little nervous. >Were you able to eat regular foods afterwards?
