I had atypical cells and my appt took awhile too .. it was the beginning of the waiting and waiting and waiting .......

In my case I was told 25% of atypical nodules become cancer if not already so I made up my mind before I even saw my surgeron for the most part in my case .. I was lucky that the pathologist came into the FNA room and I got immediate results but I had to wait 9 weeks for surgery and went thru 2 ENT's, family doc, and 2 Endo to make  sure I wanted the surgery and the orig nodules were BENIGN, but they found two incidental tiny tumors that were papillary.

That was surgery in '07 .. doing fine now.

I had atypical cells in my biopsy and my appt with surgeon was about 4 weeks.  Not sure if this is usual, but it has been my experience.  I have my appt. with surgeon in a few days, finally.
