hypo with joint pain

I was just wondering, I have been on synthroid for 3 1/2 weeks and I am still having joint pain to the point that I can't lift my arms. I am just new to this and was hoping someone could let me know if and when they find the right dosage of the synthroid, will the joint pain go away? I was also wondering if anyone knows what is best to do for the pain as I have a 1 1/2 year old that doesn't understand why I can't pick him up all of the time. IB Profen (advil) doesn't seem to help at all or tylenol.

Thanks for any help

I am on this site for the first time because of my joint pain.  Have had Hashim. for the last 5 yrs. On Synthroid and then diag. w/ papillary carsinoma.  TT in april and back on Synthroid again.  The pain is mostly in by shoulders and hands.  It keeps me awake and have a constant need to move my legs.  I am so stiff when I try to get up in the morning.  No energy.  Try to eat healthy and take calcim, Vit. D, Calcitrol, Synthroid, sleeping pills and antidepressants.  Man.  I'm tired.

The actual reason that I went to the Dr was for the joint pain and that is how they found out my tsh levels were low. I don't really know much about any of this, but they were also testing for rheumatoid arthritis. I have not been on any kind of meds before this actually I was quite active with a new baby( now 18 months) and was told it could be from the pregnancy.

Thank you everyone for your help so far, but to ro345, I don't know what thyroid anybody is.

I had similar joint pains a few years back, well before being diagnosed with hypothyroid. I could not raise my left hand. Went to the doctor, having x-rays, no explanations. The pain went away when I start exercising with lightweights, I do not advise but back then I did not know better. Anyway, now I have pains occasionally, but much less. I start taking Levo last year and I just switch to Armour.
Your pain it could get better with a good thyroid treatment but also check to see if you have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (elevated Epstein-Barr in your blood test) or Fibromyalgia.

I had a TT in Sept '07 for cancer and was on Levothyroxine + Cytomel with no "real" problems until early spring.  At least until I switched to Synthroid only.  Then immeadiately I had HUGE joint/arthritis issues.

You don't mention what your issues were prior to starting Synthroid.  However, I'd definately mention to your doctor that your having problems with the Synthroid and see if he can switch you to another brand of thyroid replacement, or check for other problems if the pain was there prior to replacement.

Hi Becky,

Were you told that your joint pain would go away with Synthroid?  Have you been diagnosed with a type of arthritis?

I have osteoarthritis and I'm on Synthroid, but I have not experienced the kind of pain you are describing.
