thanks working on the anxiety. on lexapro now. going to therapy. it helping.
Cortisone injections are for inflammation, bursitis etc......I have never heard them being used here in Australia for being Hyperthyroid.
I was hyper prior to RAI and never ever had them.
I was given anti-thyroid meds which are not steroids so maybe something they do in the USA....dont know.
Predisolone is a steroid but that is prescribed for TED (thyroid eye disease)...not hyperthyroidism.
And even then, you are slowly weaned off them and only on them as long as needed to stop the inflammation in the eyes.
I did have 2 cortisone injections before I had 2 operations on my shoulder where they inserted a titanium plate(due to a smashed shoulder and a fall) but it didnt in any way block my conversion to T3 as a few years later I was diagnosed with Graves and had Hyperthyroidism.
Ideally, no matter what you do in your health.......I am more for 'quality of life' and if I had back pain I too would have the cortisone injections.
I always say...whatever works for you.
I am off this morning to have an ultrasound guided cortisone injection in the Hip as I have Bursitis and a tear there.
I will be watching my levels because of the injection but when it gets to the stage where you cannot walk because of the pain, then the time has come for me to get the injection.
Skeeter, you may be correct in it affecting the thyroid levels but honestly and truthfully...even taking the contraceptive pill affects your levels.
Even foods we eat affect the levels so it is best to keep an eye out on them.
kl42.......my levels are normal, I still get tired and i still have some anxiety here and there (like crossover symptoms)...usually it means my TSH is not at my 'happy ' level.
Keep an eye on it as anxiety can come at both ends of the scale....both hyper and hypo.
I could be way off base here. If I'm incorrect, someone else chime in please!!!
You had 3 cortisone shots for your back. Steroids are used to treat hyperthypoid and bring it under control quickly. I think it blocks the conversion to T3. Therefore, "maybe" the shots for your back have messed up your thyroid meds.
im on 175 syntroid. had tt . still have some fatigue and some anxiety on lexapro now seeing a therapist for it . other than that symtoms are gon just anxiety and fatigue not as bad but still there. my back is much better did physical therapy and chiro. plus 3 coritzone shots.
With a TSH of 2.06, you are basically classified as 'normal' by the medical field but you need to find your 'happy ' number.
This takes time, patience and a lot of hard work.
You may feel better at 2.5 or you may feel better at 1.5....its really a case of watching symptoms, noting them down and then trying to 'tweak' your meds to get to the level which is good for you.
After all....you are the only one who knows when all is not right...its your body.
You should be feeling almost ok with the tsh at that number.....I say that as you wouldnt feel as bad as you was.
Watch you dont go HYPER/HYPO too fast on the meds.
If you tend to feel you are heading that way then see your Endo to decrease/increase your meds.
I have just read your profile and it shows problems with your back....that would be distressing enough without all the thyroid problems.
What treatment are you having in regards to your thyroid?
Also what medication are you on for the thyroid?
Drug sensitivity causes mine to change within 1-2 weeks.
Post your last levels here.
Usually takes six to eight weeks. It all depends on your body. What were your numbers and your last levels???? That can help some of us.
