Side note:  I have to use Quest, also for my labs (insurance requirement) and they charge the insurance a lot more than the labs normally cost....... what's wrong with our health care system??

I do have insurance, but now see a holistic MD who does not take my insurance.  The first visit I did the labs at her office and they cost me $220 out of pocket.  The next time I had labs I went to Quest Diagnostics, so my insurance would cover it.  Quest billed my insurance co. $1159 for the exact same labs!  You may be able to save money by seeing a similar type of Dr. who won't inflate the labs so much.  BTW...she is a way better dr than any I saw under my BCBS insurance.

I can't remember ever having insurance here in Alabama. In California all the places I worked had health insurance for you. This was 30 years ago. I do know that hospitals have programs that low income people can apply for. Rich people donate to hospitals to help cover costs of people who are low income. You go to the administration office and tell them you need a test done and that you were wondering if they have a program that you can apply for. Most do. You have to give allot of personal information, but it's really worth it. Try that. It helped me a couple of times on things I needed done.

Do they have a clinic in your area or maybe you can applied for medicare.  I'm not quite sure how it works.  however, I have a family member who goes to the clinic and I think gets better treatment than I do from dr(s).

As bluestarmom stated, see if the doctors will allow you to some in advance and the rest later.

If things get to bad, you can always go to the hospital.

Keep us posted.

They let me pay 20% down and did the test. I just have to figure out how to pay the balances later. That's one option!

For my ultrasound yesturday I had to pay $ 44.00 prior to. Then I will get a bill for $178 in a couple of weeks. When my doctor ordered my blood test they just sent me a bill in the mail later for $198. The FNA for two nodes was $1200 that I paid for prior to having it done but I was then billed $1090 for the FNA to be reviewed by the pathogist.

Because my husband and I are not considered poor by goverment standards I can not get any assistance.

There was another post recently of someone that needed surgery that didn't have insurance. Many people replied. I'm trying to find it for you.
