is low vitamin D tied to throid disease

I have just got my test results back and again I am borderline hypo.
TSH 0.38 FT4 15(normal) Written despite the reduced TSH, the normal free thyrioid hormone(s) indicate a euthyriod state. repeat in 6-12 months.
I insisted on a vitamin D level as I have been told that low level goes with thyriod problems. my results came back 25-Hydroxy Vitamin d 59 nmol/L normal range 75  or greater. iron was normal which was up on last few tests as I have been taking a suppliment every 2 days of the week.
Any suggestions why vitamin D might be tied to thyriod function.

I will have to get my calcium level check now but it could be the reason my body craves all this icecream and milk. I do not eat sweets or cakes but I go through about 3 litres of icecream and drink about 9 litres of light milk a week.  I will run it past the chemist as well to see if their is a vitamin d with calcium pill??? Should be they have a pill for everything.....

RED was right and I don't know how I made that mistake.

It is high calcium in hyperparathyroid disease. I just went back and read my post.

So sorry about that.

I have just been informed that a low level of vitamin D is responsible for Autoimmune disease, Diabeties 1, and some cancers but it's symptoms can also lead to it being  misdiagnosed as fatigue syndrome.  I have been told that I have to take the D3 and not the D2 that you normally find in a multi vitamin pill as the D3 absorbs up to 60% better.
So I will head off down to the chemist on Monday for some D3.

Low vitamin D is common to people with thyroid disease. The reason is not fully understood, but it is generally blamed on poor absorbtion of nutrients which leads to various deficiencies.

It does not have a direct affect on thyroid function or hormone synthesis, but it is related to thyroid disease as a symptom, much as dry skin or fatigue is a symptom.

It is possible to have a vitamin D deficiency and have normal calcium levels, although low vitamin D often leads to low calcium levels.

I suffer from low vitamin D as well (13 at the last reading) but my calcium levels keep testing in the normal range.

Low Vit D means you won't absorb calcium from your gut. If you get your calcium levels checked I bet they are  on the low side too. parathyroid.com has a page devoted to Vit D,
and hypoparathyroid disease. Hyperparathyroid disease is when you have too high a calcium level)  I have not found any research that shows the Vit D thyroid connection, but that's not to say it isn't part of the whole disease. I have low Vit D at 33 when it should be over 60 (Australian lab range) I have also very low calcium and take 4 X 600 mgs caltrate a day with just below normal levels. I had a TT in Dec 07 which often leads to low calcium. I always had low calcium anyway before any diagnoses of thyroid, but I do wonder too if low Vit D is actually part of the bodies function slowing down due to  thyroid disease.

No I am not familiar with a low Vit D being connected at all with thyroid disease.

If it is in combination with a low calcium it could mean primary hyperparathyroid.

Your TSH that you state does not Dx you as sub clinical hypothyroid - if any - it would be hyperthyroid - but you level is within new ranges.
