jaw swelling

by rose331, Apr 06, 2008 03:15PM
I had an RAI treatment 6 days ago.  My jawline swelled on the 3rd day and has not gone down since.  How long will I have to wait before my jawline looks completely normal?

I wonder if it may be your saliva glands.  Mine were blocked following RAI, but it didn't happen right away. It is hard to say how long it will last.  Is it worse at mealtime, when you produce more saliva?

I haven't noticed if it's any worse during meal times but I think you are exactly right, it is the salivary glands.  What was your experience?  How were the glands blocked?

Mine didn't start giving me trouble until a few months after RAI 200mci.  At first my GP thought it was the mumps because there was an outbreak in our area. That was ruled out and I started looking on the internet and found out that RAI can affect the salivary glands. That lasted a couple of months but now the problem is not enough saliva from the top glands and it is hard to chew foods that are dry.  I mentioned it to my dentist and he recommended more frequent visits during this time. I'm not sure how the glands get blocked but I Could feel the swelling as soon as I ate. It would slowly go away about 2 hours later but not completely, and then fill again at the next meal. I also had a very salty or metalic taste in my mouth which I still get occasionally. Lots of side effects which sometimes show up later and then you have to figure things out.

I am not sure if anyone advised you - but you should be totally flushing your system out right now with purified water and lemon. Try that - it may flush out the toxin you probably are having. At least a week of flushing would be good.

When you say "flushing", I assume you mean not swallowing the lemon and water.  Is that right?

Flush by drinking lots of fluids and eat sour candy to stimulate your saliva glands. They usualy tell you to do this as soon as you take the RAI.
