joint pain with Hashimotos?

joint pain with Hashimotos?

I've had Hashimoto's for 30 years and my youngest daughter was diagnosed with it a month ago. Now my older daughter has suddenly develped intense joint pain...in every joint. I've read that can be a symptom of Hashimoto's or perhaps she has develped Rhematoid arthitis, another autoimmune disease. She goes in tomorrow for a bunch of blood work...thyroid and other...
Has anyone on this site had experience with joint pain associated with Hashimoto's? Did it go away with synthroid treatment or did it devolop into or was it caused by Rhematoid arthritis?
Thanks

Joint pain is a symptom of Hashi's.  Synthroid treatment may alleviate the joint pain after a period of time.  Although it is associated with thyroid disease, it could also mean other things, too, such as arthritis.  I would have her get a bone density test or bone scan to make sure it is not something else.

I also have muscles and joint pain, i have been taking synthroid for last almost 2 years but things are not improving , still have muscles weakness /joint pain /headaches, my TSH level is also not in control it is keep going up/down . I like to hear stories from others as well , how long do we have to wait after reach optimum level.

My joint pain is what sent me to the docs in the first place. That and increasing fatigue and muscle aches to the point of exhaustion with little expended effort. The Rheum dx'd me with Fibromyalgia, ruled out RA, Lupus, MS, Lyme, etc. I also have IBS supposedly. All this came on last summer. I've only been on thyroid meds since November.

I have read many stories of people finding their "sweet spot" with meds, and many of them have found relief. I remain hopeful that when I get optimized my joint pain will get better.

I am sorry to hear that all of you are suffering this joint pain too!  I just got diagnosed with Hashimoto's a week ago.  I am only 23.  Last year I ran a marathon, but this year is another story.  I get bad joint pain in the back of my knees when I try to run, but it seems a little better now that I've started with the synthroid.  I try to work through the pain but it's difficult.  Do y'all know of any over the counter medication that might temporarily relieve the pain while the doctors try to find the right amount of meds?  I tried advil before a run but that didn't seem to do much.

I too have had trouble with joint and more muscle pain.  Mine is behind the knee and my wrists and shooting up my arms.  My doctor put me on Naproxen(Advil) at a 375 mg twice a day.  This seems to help with the inflammation.  The pain did get better 3 months after being on Synthroid, but does reoccur occasionally for a few days/weeks.   I am thinking this is when the synthroid is not doing it's job, or I need a stronger does ocassionally.

Joint pain (and muscle weakness) can be thyroid related but it can also be low nutrients. I started treated B12, Iron, B3, Zinc, and Vitamin D deficiencies for over a month and can finally lift a full gallon of milk without feeling like it was far too heavy for my control. I think it's the vitamins rather than my thyroid medicine doing the trick because I've only been on thyroid meds for 10 days.

Hi!

As long as i can remember, i have had joints that make cracking sounds and sometimes also hurt. It goes away when i dont eat yeast, MSG(made with yeast), vinager(made with yeast), most b-vitamins(yeast), grains, smoked meats or fish(mold spores), fish that has been fed grains, and to some degree also milk for a week or two. If i eat it, my joints start cracking after just one hour. I have researched and it can be an overgrowth of an intestinal yeast called candida that is responcible for the "allergic" reaction. Candida overgrowth can also cause IBS.

Please test excluding foods and see if something changes.

Love and Light, Sandra

I have had Hashi's for 13 yrs., on Levoxyl.  I have a great dr. who seems to keep my meds balanced very well...she listens to me.  I have learned so much about autoimmune diseases in the last decade.  It is rampant in my family as well as much in each of your own if you start looking.  MS, Psoriasis, Shojgrens, RA, Psoriatic arthritis, and I have Hashi's, this list goes all the way back to maternal grandmother and great uncle.  I have started having joint pain behind my left knee a couple of weeks ago with no injury.  I'm not overweight and I excercise.  I have just hit the 40 mark and feel like I'm about to add another autoimmune disorder to my belt...and truly hope this isn't the case. My advice to all of you is to keep a record of all you experience and know that you are not crazy.  My dr tells me that all the time.  Our bodies are whacko inside how else are supposed to feel?  Autoimmune "trains" don't stop for anyone so get informed and be persistent, Life is too short!  I'll keep you posted....
Good Luck and God Bless!
