just got back from the new endo

I just got back from the endo, he told me that he is open to whatever medication it will take to make me feel better. He switched me from lexo to cytomel. He also said that there could be b12 deficiency and/or vitamin D. He will check to see vitamin issues one week before I go in again, which is in a month. Great doc...really listened...I'm hopeful.

If you have been taking Cytomel, please let me know how it is working for you.
Thanks
Tami

blondie- you can also have cytomel compounded by pharmacy into slow time release. My dr mentioned it yesterday, if I come back with a high reverse t3 level. If you have a conversion problem it can be very helpful. Just work up slowly in dosage. He does have you breaking up dosage throughout the day right?

Thanks pep88. Yes, he just put me on Cytomel, not the combo. He said there may be a need for tweaking and was open to Armour etc...but I needed some time to adjust to the meds. I'm getting more bloodwork done a week before my next appt (which is in a month). Took my first cytomel today...no diff, but I know it will take some time. I was very lethargic today...got very little done....I'm sure it's the thyroid/90 humid degree combo.

Did he prescribe Cytomel only?  I like the above responders was on Cytomel only prior to RAI.  It's T3 and can make you jittery.  It's VERY short lived in your body.  I now take T3 in conjunction with Levothyroxine - T4 (150mcg Levo & 15mcg cytomel).

I have been AROUND THE BLOCK with meds!  I'm now back where I started (with T3/T4 ratio changes...) after giving only Synthroid (hated it!) and Levoxyl (the T4 drugs) a whack.  Some people here take Armour (natural pig thyroid hormone) and rave.  My combo is the same thing only synthetic.  I'm feeling the best I've ever felt. Your body should have some sort of combo, in my humble opinion...

I have taken Cytomel but as KelDC did (4 weeks).  My understanding is it is t-3 so the body does not have to convert it.  Whereas synthroid (and others) is t-4 which your body converts to t-3.  Difference being cytomel works faster but wears off faster.  T-4 is "steadier" and longer lasting.  But if it works for you it works for you....

Congrats on finding a terrific doctor who listens and works with you! They are hard to come by!  What a relief that must be for you!
I only took Cytomel briefly between my TT and my RAI, so I don't have any insight to offer, but I'm sure you will find many here who will.  Best of luck!
