latest labs and question

Hello,  I am new here.  :)

.88 synthroid for 4 months.   Still  have pretty bad symptoms and was shocked to see my results.

Tsh 36
ft4   1.2   Ranges .8 to 1.8
ft3   2.4   Ranges 2.3  to 3.2

I added in  1/4 of a .25   for a daily regimin of 93 a night of synthroid.  However i am considering adding and trying some slow release t3.   My thoughts were to start with 5 mg a day either split up OR just 1 @ 5 mg  and maybe work it up to 10 mg over 3 months or so.    My question would be, do you think this might help?  Also is the slow release typically 12 hours?   when would you suggest i take it?  morning or maybe with lunch?

I'm actually just taking the 100 now.  Levoxl made me feel worse.  I think its just that i was taking one medication and switched to another.  whats weird is this small increase, despite my labs crying for it has made me feel HYPO, at least for now.   I guess ill just keep pushing through.  :(

Hi Bruce... yes, even a small dosage increase can cause worsening symptoms for a while until your body gets used to it.

Since you're splitting pills anyway, can you get your doctor to prescribe the 50 mcg pills and split those into what you need?  The 50 mcg pills don't have any dye in them and you might tolerate them better.

My other suggestion would be to try switching to Levoxyl.  Most everyone does well on that, when they don't do well on some of the others.  It's worth a try.

and with the doctor moving to OREGON  ( who lives in oregon anyway)  he calls me and tells me to please increase to 100 because he was worried about my last results.  SO I bumped from .88 to .93  to now 100.

My tsh was like 36  and my frees were barely in range  so it seems like common sense to bump me.  However , how on earth is it possible to feel this wonky on such a small increase?

Tired, ears buzzing like attack of the bees,  very hypo symptoms.   Like very hypo.   Also a little nausea and dizziness.  IS this normal?

Well, you know that it's very common for symptoms to worsen after you change dosages or medications, so you have to ride it out for a while and give your body time to adjust.

Comparable to dying a slow death - sounds about right - it doesn't work!!

You've never given yourself a chance to get used to T3 med - you give up on it at the first sign of adverse reaction.  Half of 5 mcg tablet is so little, it can hardly do much of anything.

Update,   i tried some regular t3 and of course it made me feel horrible.   The doctor who retired actually called me and told me i should increase from .88 to 100 and try it again.  We agreed to meet half way at .93  and then if i don't get relief to up it again in a while.

I noticed the first 3 days after adding 1/4 of a .25 to my nightly regimin each day i was completely exhausted.    I was falling asleep at the movie theater the next day in fact.  But not as tired today.

I have also "polled"  a lot of people in groups and they say that being on slow release t3 is comparable to dying a slow death each day.   So here i lie.  just me and my pez candy looking medication ( with t4 inside!)

Okay thank you for clarifying - that makes more sense.

You're right, your FT3 is pretty dismal; it has been for a while, hasn't it?

I'm sorry, I thought you tried compounded slow release T3 at one time...From what we've seen, it doesn't seem to work all that well.  That could be because most doctors are only prescribing it to be taken once/day, when it should really be taken at 12 hr intervals. However, even those who have taken it at 12 hour intervals don't seem to do that well on it.

Most seem to do best with small doses of regular cytomel or even the generic liothyronine, which I've been on for years.

Cytomel is dosed in mcg so if you split a 5 mcg pill and start with just 2.5 mcg once daily and work your way up slowly, you should be able to tolerate it. If you try to split it down any smaller, you'll probably only have powder and you won't know what you're getting.

I was on .88 since dec 26.  Before that I was on 100 but I felt hyper.     I got my labs which I posted.    I'm now on my second day of an increase.   All I did was take a 25 and 1/4 it.   So end result I'm taking .88 plus 1/4 of a 25 of synthroid before bed.    No cytomel though heavily considering it given how lowsy my ft3 was.

I never tried slow release t3, only regular.

Hi Bruce - long time no see.. welcome back

Really, you thought to convince us that you're new here, after all these years?  That's funny... :-)

The dosage numbers you posted are quite confusing even for us veterans... What do you mean a 1/4 of 0.25 for a daily regimen of 93 a night of synthroid?  That doesn't make sense.  I know you were taking your synthroid at night, but if you're taking T3 with it, adding T3 to T4 isn't going to average out to a T4 dosage.

What's your T4 dosage and what T3 dosage are you planning to add to it?

Slow release is, typically, supposed to be taken every 12 hrs and we've seen (you've taken it) that it doesn't work as well as cytomel or its generic taken in 2 doses/day.

You're being too vague and you know you can't do that...
