liver problems

anyone experience any liver problems due to the medications for grave's disease? Apparently my doctor, thinks my liver is starting to have some difficulties, enzymes are up,.way up... due to the medications i am on. she says my levels look like that of a person who has drank all their lives. I don't drink, never have. Am scheduled to have an ultrasound done on liver and pancreas. how frustrating, the med's for my thyroid are causing another problem all together. fix one problem, make another appear. circus clowns, they are! anyone trying anything like a nutrientalist? see i can't even spell it!  does it help, has it helped?..

Anti-thyroid drugs have the potential to cause liver damage. If you look up the drug you are taking you will see a long list of possible complications with liver damage being one possible problem.

You have only been taking the drug for a few months, so it is surprising that you are having problems. Doctors generally feel it is safe to take such drugs for a year or two.

In Europe anti-thyroid drugs are considered long term therapy, and many people take them for decades. Here, the risk for liver damage is considered too great, and most doctors discontinue treatment in less than two years, and recommend more radical procedures if your Graves has not gone into remission.

If you cannot tolerate the Methimazole, perhaps PTU would be worth trying. Or the other way around. I don't know what you are taking.

If trying another drug does not work, yuo will need to look at other options like RAI ablation to destroy the gland, or surgery.
