Nice to see you returning.
Hi,
Sorry I took so long to answer. I don't use message boards too much. I have been told by the eye doctor that flax seed can thin your blood a bit, so it's best to check with your doctor and see if you can take it. Yes, my eyes were very bad for about 3 years. I even checked into having surgery but decided to wait it out. Now, they are much better but still dry. I use eye ointment at night and sleep with an eye mask and this helps a lot. It does get better with time.
I have been on Methimazole for the last 15 months. Symptoms and THS, T3, T4 levels are in sync.
Had developed Dry Eye so the eye doctor put me on Thera Tears Nutrition (flaxseed pills) as well as the Thera Tears eye drops. My Endocrinologist said it was fine for me to take the flaxseed pills. I don't have bulging of the eyes, but the Endo said that may come in time. My mother has Graves disease and one of her eyes bulges slightly.
i just wonder is it possable to take flax seed oil when taking neomerozole i am lso hypo and also have graves are your eyes bulgy i wonder whats good for this?hugs claire
I have been stable for about 1 year. The med keeps my TSH and Free T4 in check. That is why it is hard for me to make a decision on the Surgery. I could go on taking the med but it is not advised by the docs. My eyes started to improve last Aug (so it was almost to the 3 year mark). I will have to say they have continued to improve and look pretty good now. My eyes are still very dry and I wear an eye mask at night ...it makes them feel better the next day. Also, when I remember, I take Flax Seed Oil, that really does help.
I have been on Methimazole for a year now and want the surgery (I have TED too so no RAI for me) because there are still good days and bad days. Are you relatively stable now? How long into the 3 yrs on the med did it take to 'regulate' you? I am down to 10mg a day (did 9 months at 20mg) and my TSH is 1.02 right now...
Good Luck this week! I am a bit nervous about being on the med for so long...but the docs are not recommending RAI because I had so much Thyroid Eye Disease. They feel the Thyroidectomy would be the best choice and I'm not excited about that solution. Also, it's hard to go to surgery when the med is working well. It's a catch 22 because the long term med use is probably not great either.
Yes , I've been on the same medication for at least 3 years as well, but I was still Hyper, so at last I saw a End, and I decided to go fo RAI, I had that for about 3 weeks ago, and so far so good, I am not having those bad feelings anymore, just a bit of palpitation, which they say is normal at this stage. I am going for the blood work and see the doctor this week.
