With 3 cold nodules on the left of thyroid and two on right, one being 1.8 cm in size, and being hot , I have been put on  10mg. of methimazole 3 times daily. Good news, no cancer! I have been told with this treatment that its possible for my thyroid problem to cure itself? Also I've been told my thyroid is overactive. One of my concerns is to wheather or not I will gain weight with this medication? I live a pretty clean life style with little junk food or sweets. I eat alot of fruits and vegs. Also keeping red meat down to once or twice a week and small portions. I prefer fish and chicken but have a real problem not gaining. I can not get out and exercise like I want do to two really bad legs and alot of chronic pain. I've also heard that it can take up to 10 weeks for methimazole to work. I will be talking to my doctor about need of iodine, radiaton treatments or possible surgery but he wants to see if medication works first, Has anyone experianced how this medication works and if there are any side effects or if you know of good outcomes on methimazole. Also any tips on keeping weight off or best way to get it off? I am esp, worried about more weight gain. I do appreciate all the notes and tips from all of you who have given me advice and help so far on this sight. I look forward to hearing from everyone and also hope that I too can be as helpful to all of you. Med help is a good sight at least it helps to know that I am not alone out here, and that we do have each other. Thankyou and God bless you all.

Woohhhhh!
Who told you it takes 10 weeks for Methimazole to work????
I was going from hyper to hypo in 2 weeks flat!
While the Methimazole is blocking the thyroid, you probably will GAIN the weight.
I gained 16kgs prior to RAI being on Neomercazole (trade name for Methimazole).
If you have the aching joints and muscles, you need a decrease but get your levels done first.
I was having bloods done every 2 weeks because of the Methimazole working so fast on me.
