Just remember, If some time in your life you no longer have that extra hour in your morning routine, and you do drink or snack lightly within the hour - you need to do that every day. There are people that do this - and their dose needed and lab test would reflect this slightly. If you do have an hour, that is best.
In my first line in the previous comment I meant to say Dont GET the one hour absorption time in you stomach confused....................
Thankyou for your quick response. I take my meds. about 6:30 am to 7:00 so if I wait for coffee about 1 hr. then it should work for me. Now using non dairy creamer to be on safe side also. Again thankyou. Chickamin
Dont the one hour absorption time in you stomach confused with the many days T4 is in your body (blood stream).
Anything digestible will effect the rate and overall absorbion of thyroid med in your stomach during that one hour. After that its absorbed through the lining of the stomach into the blood stream so it no longer matters. Fact - If its not water, then its digestible and will interfere. Your diluting your dose. So you have to dilute at the same rate everyday for consistency or hardly never. Even juice and soda are digestible and will interfere a little. Thyroid hormone is attracted by protein and vegetable fiber even more so.
Is it due to the fact that milk has protein that one should avoid it in coffee in the morning? And if so what about protein for the rest of the day? Do you know if there also is a limit then on protein in breakfast itself? This is something my doctor has not talked to me about? I too wonder about any protein? Since I take synthroid, do you know how that works,? You said it is a good idea to take all vitamins 4 hrs. after taking synthroid, could this be the same with protein? Do you know if synthroid stays in the body for the 24 hrs. between, pills, seems if so this would effect everything then the same,if milk is a problem in the am with coffee then why not later also? I taught your answer was one with some insight that is why I am asking your insight now. Thanks Chickamin
Like said above..........its all about being consistent in your post med morning routine.
Milk has protein, so it can make a difference, and will constantly 'dilute' your med every day. So if you stopped this routine forever, technically you might need less med, as your frees may rise slightly.
For simplicity, take all vitamins four or more hours away from thyroid meds.
Thanks, sounds like if it works for you then I shoul not worry so much but yes I will ask doctor also
I use milk in my coffee .. my Dr said to me that as long as I am consistently doing the milk or whatever it is that may not be 100% perfectly in line ... then it's ok because that is how the med will be adjusted. But do ask your Dr or Pharma .... that is in my case. I take my milk in my coffee with my synthroid ev morning for 3 yrs now and doing well all around.
