multinodular goiter with normal levels.....question

by dart frog, Jun 05, 2007 12:00AM
I was wondering if anyone with a multinodular goiter and normal levels is as tired as I am.
I drag thru each day so tired but I have to take sleeping pills at night to sleep.
The last levels done were in Februrary and all were completely normal. Could they have changed that much since then to explain why I'm so dang tired all the time??? If so will this go away once my thyroid is removed?

My two boys (5 & 12)are busy guys who wants mom to rip and tear with them day in and day out when poor 'ol mom just wants to have a nap! Ohhh this is going to be a looong summer.

I had a multinodular goiter and I was told I was euthyroid, but on my labs my T4 was SLIGHTLY low (5.9 and range is 6.1-11.9).  I did drag through every day, but had NO PROBLEM falling asleep at night.  I was (am) up multiple times each night to use the bathroom or feed my daughter.  And I attributed my lack of energy to having a 2 year old and an infant.

Since the goiter was removed and I've started Levoxyl, I have WAY more energy.  I find that I don't have the usual mid-morning slump where I'm about to fall asleep at my desk, and I am not wanting to crawl in bed at 8:30.  I also still wake up to feed my daughter, but strangely, not to use the restroom.  NOW... given all that, I have to say that I am only 3 weeks on Levoxyl, so I know that this may be temporary as the drugs still need more time to reach equilibrium in my system.  However, I feel like I'm off to a great start.  I do know others have a little "buzz" when changing brands or doses of medication, but I'm hoping that mine is going to stick b/c I feel better than ever (aside from my nasty hairloss issue).

I know there are others on here that are much further post op than I am so I will be interested to hear what they have to say.

I was diagnosed with a multinodular goiter last June.  I had a FNA biopsy done, had all the bloodwork etc.  The bloodwork always came back normal, but I could barely function.  I had enough energy to get the kids out the door to school and barely enough to even take a shower.  I think I lived on the sofa the entire winter...I had a TT done on 2/14/07 and am on 100 mcg's of Synthroid and feel wonderful!  I haven't felt this good in such a long time.  I am convinced that these goiters do a number on people.  Mine actually got to the point that you could see it in my neck before the surgery.  My energy level has definitely  changed for the better and the surgery was the best thing ever.  My daughters are 10 & 13 and are so happy that I have the energy  to do things with them so far this summer.  It's nice to feel human again.  Good Luck.

I hear you!  Multinodular goiter, normal labs (TSH and antibodies), and my butt is dragging.  I'm actually feeling a little more energy since I stopped taking the Armour.  Since I also probably have adrenal fatigue as well, the Armour was kicking my butt (severe fatigue).  Still have to take a nap in the late morning or early afternoon before I can do anything later in the day.

Have you had your FT4 and FT3 tested?  My mind doesn't hold info these days any more than a sock holds water, and can't remember if you've posted these before or not.

I feel you.  My neck is bulging everywhere, but I don't go for an ultrasound until June 11th.  I can barely move and am suffering from every hypo symptom there is.  My doc doesn't believe me because my tests are normal.  =(

Well At least I'm not alone! I knew nothing about thyroids until 3 months ago so I'm a little  slow catching up.

Nyxie I can SO relate about the mind problems. I keep putting "things" in a safe place but for the life of me I cant remeber where that is!!!  I have lost the title to 2 cars, the tax papers, and if I dont find the house insurance papers soon my husbands going to make me sleep on the couch!

Thank God for caffine!!

I'm so glad you posted this question! I've had a goiter since my early 20's but over the last year it has gotten bigger (I couldn't wear turtlenecks through the winter because I felt like I was choking) I saw my pmd in april because I kept getting sick and couldn't get well. I also feel exhausted all the time but can't sleep and have had a 10lb weight loss (the only good thing) in the past month with normal labs and a normal uptake. Made the appointment with the ent myself who agreed that it was getting way to big and having surgery on the 19th. Glad to see others feel better after it comes out. Had an FNA which was thankfully benign. I don't know how big everyone elses is but the radiologist called it the thyroid that ate manhatten....seriously.

I'd get another opinion. I'm beginning to wonder if mine should have come out a few years ago.

Good Luck!

I have a multinodular goiter and all my levels are normal, always have been.  My endo is just "watching it" and has been doing that for about two years now.  I recently had my gallbladder removed and even the anistheologist(sp) said something about it.  I'm having muscle aches in my legs and wonder if it could by thyroid related.
