myxedema coma

My tsh, t4 and t3 test showed all abnormal results.  I was born with severe cretinism.  My tsh a week ago was 43.5   I am on the max of synthroid, and take cytomel for t4 help.  I am having severe symptoms especially fatigue, enlarged tongue, my hair is falling out and my memory is horrible.  I am usually very warm blooded, but, recently I am cold all of the time.  I am concerned about myxedema coma.  I have been extrmely ill for the past 13 mo with many many surgeries and far too many infections.   What level is too high for tsh and am I headed for this condition if not corrected soon?  Please help.  ***@****

I have read where people had TSH as high as 400  to 700.

It takes at least 6 weeks before you will hopefully start feeling some results from Synthroid.  Cytomel is t3, not t4 and should be taken every 6 to 8 hours to keep an even amount in your system. That means a single dose of cytomel would be taken 3 to 4 time in a 24 hour period. Also might mean having to get up in the middle of the night to take a pill. If you don't, you can get side effects like uppers and downers.

Give your medication time to work. Rome was not built in a day, likewise healing.

As far as Myxedema coma, if you get very lethargic to the point of falling asleep and have a hard time waking up and  a fever, go to ER.

Not to worry.  My first TSH was 98 and . . . I'm still here.  I have read on this forum of someone up to 600(?) TSH.  Seems outrageous, but I think that's what they said.  You are on meds for low thyroid and your TSH will start lowering.  You won't go into coma.   Sorry to hear of all your other troubles, so don't worry about this one.  Hang in there and get well.
