thanks a lot tanginelz3, thats something i really needed to hear right now :) ! thank you soo much.
Having a child is a HUGE change and can really do a number on your body. I'm sorry you are going through this. I'm 10 months postpartum and was first diagnosed with PPD and then with Hashimoto's (hypothyroid). It's been the hardest time of my life. It has gotten better, I almost checked myself into a hospital before I found out about my thyroid problem. I was put on anti depressants and I don't know how I would have gotten through the first months without it. They aren't for everyone and some people can treat PPD without it but I couldn't.
As for your boyfriend, I'm sorry. He should have stood by you. Its good you are with your Mom. If you are diagnosed with PPD there are some great books and support websites that really helped me. Message me if you want.
I hope you start to feel better soon, this doesn't last forever.
oh dont worry i am not taking him back whatsoever, you girls dont even know the worst of it, trust me.
but thanks I will take what you said in consideration, and i am not on anti-depressants yet... he is still doing tests, but he wants to make sure, that i dont do anything crazy to harm myself.
and yes maybe things may seem like i am crazy, but doesn't my EX boyfriend seem more crazy for not sticking with me through this and not caring for his child. he is out partying right now and hitting on girls, that's how much he cares.
and totie, i completely agree, that is why i am getting better, and giving my daughter the life and love she deserves.
Your prioriety is your health & your child....
Why would you want him back....you see what he is really like. What happens if he comes back & you get some form of illness, is he going to run again....You deserve more respect than what he is giving you....You in all honesty deserve better....so does your child...
Take care of yourself & your child first, worry about your love life later...
I still say that I would NOT take the anti-depressants. At least for another few weeks to see how the thyroid meds help.
Low Thyroid is very common to have depression symptoms. I would think one medicine at a MIGHT be the way you consider going.
For some reaons Dr's are quick like a NY second to prescribe anti-depressants. But loath to take the necessary blood test to be able to get the proper Thyroid medicine.
Please ask for your lab report and post your results. How you describe your results leads to a LOT of speculation. My guess is that your TSH was way high. The current latest range for TSH is 0.3 to 3.0 but most labs seem oblivious to this and use the old range which may be the 0.5 to 5 you were talking about with your being 100+. It is NOT unusual for someone with low Thyroid to initially have a TSH over 100. Not common to see it over 200. And it really doesn't matter the number. it is more like a yes or no test. And YES you have Hypothyroidism with a number over 3. Whether 5 or 500 really doesn't matter.
you will now want to get the FREE T3 and FREE T4 test done. This is critical and is what your medication dosage changes should be used to fine tune the dosage. Be aware that it is possible once you start Thyroid meds that it will suppress TSH and that it will go down to near zero. At which point your Dr. will freak out again and reduce the dosage even though you are just beginning to feel well. Do NOT let them do this to you. Tell them this upfront so that if they are not aware of it, when or if it happens they will be amazed that you know more about what is going to happen then they do.
I hope you have some sort of financial arrangements with the father!
Maybe once you get stabilized on Thyroid he will come back. I hope so. You may also want to let him know that your blood work is out of whack and thus it explains you being "psycho" so to speak. Maybe once he realizes this is a true sickness and you're not crazy he will understand and come back. I hope so.
well my thyroid levels are out of yack. where your thyroid should be around 2.5- 5 or something like that and mine is over a hundred, and where it says in your results that it should be around <35 mine is 2638. so mine is really bad, my doctor is scared of my numbers and trying to control really good, but its really bad. and well i am on medication, and now i am getting tested for depression because of the things that are going on.
and as for my boyfriend, he isn't my boyfriend anymore. he left me. he told me, i needed to get help because of how i was being and feeling, and i do understand what you are saying flyingfool, he wouldnt have left me if it was just a flu, but now that it is more serious he doesnt want to be involved. he has his whole family against me, making me look like a psycho problem. he never even looked up hypothyroid, or even came to an apointment with me, to see what the doctors said. my mom finally came, and now i am living with her, because she is scared for my health. you know i couldn't care if this was just any other guy, but this guy is the father of my baby, and leaves me when i need him the most.
well what it looks like, is that i will probably be on anti-depressants and thyroid medications, because i am so out of wack. thanks for your answers. :) !
It is quite frequent that women will be treated for anxiety and depression and will be given anti-depressants for YEARS before they find out that it is Thyroid issue.
Also being only 8 months after birth you could be having postpartum depression. This may be by itself but also may be exacerbated by the low Thyroid.
Your BF needs to understand that this may very well be a medical issue and not a personality trait. If you had the flu would he ignore you or not care? Just because a Thyroid disorder does not make you cough and sneeze does not mean that you're not having a medical sickness!
Being a new parent is plenty stressful. I'm not sure how stress relates to Thyroid but stress is known to do all sorts of bad things physically to a person. So I would not rule that out.
My guess is that it may be a combination of things that you are dealing with. I would recommend that to talk to your Dr. about postpartum depression and also about getting some blood lab work done. While at it check for Vitamin D, E, B12 and Selenium. These can also affect fatigue and commonly low with people who have low Thyroid.
Do not totally let yourself get talked into anti-depressants WITHOUT at least ruling out Thyroid issues. I get the impression many Dr's are quick to Rx anti-depressants yet are loath to even do a blood test to test for Free T3 and Free T4. Which makes no sense to me.
There is tons of evidence and peer reviewed studies that prove there is a relationship between mental health and thyroid disorders (hypo or hyper). In fact, I just read a recent study in which there was the same incidence of anxiety in BOTH hypo and hyper patients which was surprising to researchers who thought it would be higher with hyperthyroid. Depression and bipolar disorder can certainly be a caused from an unsteady thyroid. I personally had no history of panic or anxiety until I went hyperthyroid (swung from hypo). I now have anxiety and panic disorder at times. Miraculously, at the times my thyroid cooperates I am completely fine. You definitely have to work on your thyroid and see if that helps the mental issues. I would talk to your doc about it. Are you numbers stable now? If your doc tells you that these issues cannot be caused from an unstable thyroid, he is wrong and I could send you tons of evidence to show that. Now if you thyroid is under control and you still have symptoms, you would need to see a therapist. I am working on my masters in health psychology with an interest in endocrine disorders and mental health. Good Luck.
no im not on any other medication except for that one. and at this point i dont think he will listen.
Yes your mood swings can be due to your thyroid imbalance....
Does your doctor have you on anything else other than thyroid medication? Maybe an anti-depressant can help until your thyroid levels out.
You need to explain to your BF that your mood swings can be related to the thyroid issue you are having.
