need to biopsy

by nursekat, Jul 17, 2009 04:41PM
I have had hyperthyroidism (on Methimosole 5 mg daily now) and multi-nodular goiter for many years. I had a subtotal thyroidectomy 25 years ago because I had a single cold nodule on the left. The doctor following me has done 2 ultrasound and in both it showed several small nodules and 1 large nodule measuring 1.5 cm x1.5 cm. Recently he told me that maybe I should have a biopsy even though the size of the 1 large nodule is mostly unchanged. He said that cancer had been found in multi-nodular thyroids when there was 1 larger. He said it was up to me but felt that I needed to know there was a possibility of thyroid cancer. My question is should I have the biopsy or not?
